Uh, this could potentially be an interesting thread...I think

I change my avatar pretty often...usually I choose something and stick with it until I'm tired of it, or I decide I'd really like to use this one thing as an avatar.

My most current avatar is this panel of Naruto from the Naruto manga volume 8:

What made me want to make this my avatar was mainly going over my copy of this volume and thinking how cute some of the panels were.
But also because Naruto is an inspiring character. At this point in the series (volume 8 was foreverrrrrr ago, but you get my meaning), he's the underdog, the guy always getting beaten and dismissed by others. But he refuses to give up and trains hard anyway.
And that's just...motivational, to me personally.

Hm, anyway...
What about your avatar? And, any specific reason you chose it?

I changed mine but it came out bigger than I wanted it to.And a bit blurry.

I usually locate people by their Avatars. To me, it is akin to "Brand Recognition", so to speak. Avatar hopping doesn't make too much sense to me. You don't change you name every month, do you? But, then I feel the same way about people who use different screen names on different forums.

I can always recognize "Net Chaplain" because he seems to be proud (in a good way) to use that same Nickname on every forum site he visits. Others, I sometimes wonder why they are different people in different places.

I chose this avatar a while back when we had the change your avatar to support Israel thing going. What's interesting is that Jason's avatar was very similar to mine during that time and when we would both be posting in the same thread people would quote me and somewhere in their post would address Jason. So people were getting us mixed up because they just looked at the avatar only instead of the name.

EDIT: BTW do you remember that happening Jason?

This is the first point I mentioned. I once took a class on Social Media, and their very first statement was that it is near-death to your online presence (commercially, speaking) to change Logos. (or, "Avatars") People look far more for familiar icons than they do names. (Why do you think the world's churches almost ALL use Logos or Icons?) They understand it makes an instant associative bond of positive recognition.

My avatar is a caricature of Tux, the Linux mascot, which is the OS I prefer to use. Here's a picture of the "real" Tux:

Somebody once asked me, "Rastus (it was November), why you gots that avatar?" I just gave them a cold, piercing stare, flipped a coin, and told them to call it.

He used to call himself 'High Speed Internet Minister', HSIM for short. Not so catchy. I had dial up at the time and could never get half way through his posts.

Others, I sometimes wonder why they are different people in different places.
Only when I get off my meds.

That's why I ditched my Carrot Top avatar (I'm buff like him, but I do NOT have red hair).

[blur]Oh, I don't think anyone will notice. For those of us over fifty everything's blurry anyway.[/blur]

(Hmm...I used the BB Code editor. Why didn't 'blur' work?)

Hehe. The pic of the girl in my signature was one of my old avatars.

I used to, still do but not as much, associate people with their avatars in a literal fashion. Like, I'd see their posts and picture the avatar as them speaking. And if their avatar was sad or angry or something, I read that tone into their posts.

Yep. I noticed that I and others did that, too. That's why I picked the avatar I have. I want to be taken seriously in the Theology folder. But at the same time I want to be as innocent and naive as Jethro Bodine.

Well, how 'bout if you use one of your recent photos, like this one:

Oh, and I'll use one of my latest ones:

Serious, but looking for a laugh all at the same time, lol.

I use this avatar of myself as one of my greatest passions is four-wheeling with hubby and friends as nature always draws me close to God as we ride through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania.

Oh, for some reason I always thought you were cooking at a camp stove.
