Oh I love beaches too. Beaches are prove that God is really in love with us and wants us to be happy. Actually it's not just beaches, but sea shores in general. One of my life dreams is to live somewhere near some sea, no matter if it's the Baltic Sea or the North Sea or the mediterranean. (I've been dreaming of living in Greece. They have great food, wine, culture, and hot guys-- er, I mean-- awesome people, and mountains, too. I did actually learn modern Greek when I was a teen because I was hoping to live and work or study there some day. But nowadays Greece is so broke I could probably buy an entire Aegean island from my monthly income.)
Seriously, I love beaches and the sea.
And for our friends in Europe ( @Claudya ) stone or pebble beaches don't count!
Pebble or rock beaches are fine, too. Beaches in winter with snow on them... that's amazing! I bet you don't have that in Australia. :p
Sand beaches are nice for fun activities, but those are usually crowded and the "rougher" beaches are more wild and adventurish.
That's one of my favourites. Yeah, it's a pebble beach. :p It's on Rügen island in the Baltic see. It's a beautiful and impressive hiking track. You walk out of the nearby town, along the beach for a kilometer or two, then you climb up a path onto the cliffs and continue walking through the forrest up there, always having an impressive view over the chalk cliffs and the sea.
And I enjoyed the beaches in Denmark with all the dune vegetation on them.
It's so great to just sit on a beach and watch the waves crash onto the beach. It's like watching the pulse of earth herself. And it's a garantee that life always goes on, because the waves have been there crashing onto those shores longe before human eyes watched them, and they will still be doing so long after we're all gone. It makes me realise how I am just a blink of an eye somewhere along the timeline of God's creation and in the end everything that is "me" now will matter little because I'm only a tiny piece of something greater than myself. There's a lot of comfort in that idea, I wish I could find words for how great that thought is.
And I love staring at the horizon over the sea, especially in couldy nights, when you can barely see the horizon and sea and heaven fade into one.
See, Nick, some people go to the beaches to play beach volley ball and bake in the sun, while others go there for a spiritual trip.
