The beach is an Australian icon and identity. We love the beach! :D In fact, at least 80% of Australians live on or near the coast, considering we're the 6th largest country in the world.

But I was wondering how regularly to others here go to the beach? I suspect many live in inland states. Do you like the beach?

And for our friends in Europe ( Claudya ) stone or pebble beaches don't count! :lol

Maybe this can also turn into the "post a picture of your favourite beach" thread.

Bondi blokes all...! :)

LOL! Bondi's alright...there's a lot of beaches that are better though. They're currently redeveloping the beachside shops to make it more trendy and exclusive, which I didn't think was possible.

Nick:

Anyway, the Lake Ontario shoreline in places is being redeveloped with Coastal, marine village architecture, like at Martha's Vineyard/Hyannis Port, etc. Much of Canada's population lives not so far from the US border or the Great Lakes. While there is a lot of Canada between the oceans, there is a lot of shoreline also around the Great Lakes.

Blessings.

Oh I love beaches too. Beaches are prove that God is really in love with us and wants us to be happy. Actually it's not just beaches, but sea shores in general. One of my life dreams is to live somewhere near some sea, no matter if it's the Baltic Sea or the North Sea or the mediterranean. (I've been dreaming of living in Greece. They have great food, wine, culture, and hot guys-- er, I mean-- awesome people, and mountains, too. I did actually learn modern Greek when I was a teen because I was hoping to live and work or study there some day. But nowadays Greece is so broke I could probably buy an entire Aegean island from my monthly income.) :lol

Seriously, I love beaches and the sea.

Pebble or rock beaches are fine, too. Beaches in winter with snow on them... that's amazing! I bet you don't have that in Australia. :p
Sand beaches are nice for fun activities, but those are usually crowded and the "rougher" beaches are more wild and adventurish.

That's one of my favourites. Yeah, it's a pebble beach. :p It's on Rügen island in the Baltic see. It's a beautiful and impressive hiking track. You walk out of the nearby town, along the beach for a kilometer or two, then you climb up a path onto the cliffs and continue walking through the forrest up there, always having an impressive view over the chalk cliffs and the sea.

And I enjoyed the beaches in Denmark with all the dune vegetation on them.

It's so great to just sit on a beach and watch the waves crash onto the beach. It's like watching the pulse of earth herself. And it's a garantee that life always goes on, because the waves have been there crashing onto those shores longe before human eyes watched them, and they will still be doing so long after we're all gone. It makes me realise how I am just a blink of an eye somewhere along the timeline of God's creation and in the end everything that is "me" now will matter little because I'm only a tiny piece of something greater than myself. There's a lot of comfort in that idea, I wish I could find words for how great that thought is.
And I love staring at the horizon over the sea, especially in couldy nights, when you can barely see the horizon and sea and heaven fade into one.

See, Nick, some people go to the beaches to play beach volley ball and bake in the sun, while others go there for a spiritual trip. :lol

/smile ...Thats a lovely thought, I'll have to remember that.

Hello Claudya, I see you're from Jena, Germany. I enjoy learning about distant places, so I went looking on YouTube for a "tour of Jena, Germany" and found some interesting videos about Jena. Here is one I thought was especially interesting:

Made In Germany. Jena - A City In Transition

/smile.. Ah yes, there is nothing like a day or two spent laying on the beach under a big umbrella with one's family, and then walking around on the beach with the warm sand between your toes, but what really sets all that off is the "sounds of the ocean" as the surf continually laps against the shore line.

Seriously, I love beaches and the sea.

My wife and I and our children and even our grandchildren love the beach and the sea too. Btw, love of the sea, love of good food and interesting culture is usually an indication that one loves beautiful music too. What are some of your favorite songs that you take to the beach with you?

Have you ever heard Sarah Brightman sing "There You'll Be? (Sari Qui)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Fq7rXYbc3YU

The most beautiful version of this song ever recorded was sung in Italian in a beautiful truly magnificient church, Saint Stephens Cathederal in Vienna, by Sarah Brightman and Alessandro Safini. The Italian translation of "There You'll Be" is Sarai Qui.

Thats quite beautiful, actually amazingly beautiful. I'm going to print your lovely thoughts up there and share them with my family.

Cheers.

Hi Claudya:

Great photo of Ruegen.

Did you ever visit Moens Klint, in Denmark?

I have flown over Denmark, but never stopped there.

Bornholm on the map looks as if it should belong to Sweden but actually it's Danish.

Yeah isn't it? Unfortunately I didn't take it, only found it on google image search.

Do you see that dead tree lying half on the beach, half on the water pretty much in the middle of that picture? It's been lying there forever. I had to climb over it on several occassions over several years. One time I was there with my then boyfriend and he we had a fight over something that happened on or around that tree when we were hiking there, don't exactly remember what the fight was about and it doesn't matter anyway, it's just funny to find associations between an pic some stranger has posted on the internet, and my personal life.

Never been to the Møn island. But I heard those chalk cliffs are even higher than the Rügen ones.

I wonder what Nick will think about us talking about chalk cliffs rather than sunny sandy beaches. :lol

LoL that video was fun. It was weird listening to the people interviewed speaking German with English voice-over though. My brain was confused.
Yeah, we're a student and high-tech city. I'm just sad they obviously shot the movie on a rainy day. It makey my city look... well, rainy. :(

What are some of your favorite songs that you take to the beach with you?
Probably something Metal.
zork-metal-smiley.gif

But I'd rather just listen to the waves and the birds, or bring my own guitar (if I could play) and sing some kitchy old songs with my friends.

Thats quite beautiful, actually amazingly beautiful. I'm going to print your lovely thoughts up there and share them with my family.
Thanks for your kind words! :)
