I agree with you Soma, it's by no means an Emmy quality TV show (Oscars are for movies), but it was a refreshing and entertaining look at real deeply flawed sinful Christians, much superior to shows like 7th Heaven. Instead of showing Christians living in this Brady Bunch world were sin is simple and something you can have solved by the end of an episode, this first episode immersed us in the life of this Reverend, a very screwed up and complicated (a little over the top) life, and shows him honestly trying to struggle with sin, to do the right thing, to follow God. It's only been one episode, so it's too early to know how they will proceed from this, but it has great potential. There's nothing that attacks Christianity in the show--portraying sinful Christians is truth, not attack.
Yep.... That about sums it up.
With the exception of Relic, the people that are giving this series a thumb down didnt even watch it...
I never understood that. Why people condemn certain things without having any firsthand knowledge of the "particulate" involved.
Personally for me, I have screwed up a lot in my short lifespan of 25 years. I have done things that were stupid, inconsiderate, mean - spirited, etc. I am not proud of these events and sometimes with the whole "high and mighty" mentality of "Churchfolk" I just feel inadequate and wonder why I should even try.
This show made me happy because it shows that there are other people out their that struggle with problems that many consider to only be outside the believing community.
You are not alone... In whatever you struggle with. That is what the main point of this pilot episode was for me.....
