God also said the following things:

"All their wickedness began at Gilgal; there I began to hate them. I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels. The people of Israel are stricken. Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children." (Hosea 9:11-16)

Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7)

"You are my battle-ax and sword," says the LORD. "With you I will shatter nations and destroy many kingdoms. With you I will shatter armies, destroying the horse and rider, the chariot and charioteer. With you I will shatter men and women, old people and children, young men and maidens. With you I will shatter shepherds and flocks, farmers and oxen, captains and rulers. "As you watch, I will repay Babylon and the people of Babylonia for all the wrong they have done to my people in Jerusalem," says the LORD. "Look, O mighty mountain, destroyer of the earth! I am your enemy," says the LORD. "I will raise my fist against you, to roll you down from the heights. When I am finished, you will be nothing but a heap of rubble. You will be desolate forever. Even your stones will never again be used for building. You will be completely wiped out," says the LORD. (Jeremiah 51:20-26)

"You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made other gods and have made me furious with your gold calves. And since you have turned your back on me, I will bring disaster on your dynasty and kill all your sons, slave or free alike. I will burn up your royal dynasty as one burns up trash until it is all gone. I, the LORD, vow that the members of your family who die in the city will be eaten by dogs, and those who die in the field will be eaten by vultures.'" (1 Kings 14:9-16)

And many other such passages. I think this clearly shows a vengeful deity. If God does not change, then he is the same vengeful deity today.

Quath - do you seek understanding of those passages or are you comfortable in your beliefs?

Well, I personally don't think they were ever said. I am just interested in seeing how someone can believe the Bible is true and also believe that God does not act vengeful.

Well - first - who has said that?

and two - do you seek understanding or are you comfortable in your beliefs?

The quotes come from people who wrote the Bible who probably gathered them from old stories or from priests who said they "heard" Yahweh say these things.

and two - do you seek understanding or are you comfortable in your beliefs?
I am very comfortable in my beliefs.

If you can show that these verses are not vengeful, then I would like to understand how you see that. I seek some types of understanding but probably not the type you would like to explain. But I don't know that for sure.

What I meant was: who has said "the Bible is true and also believe that God does not act vengeful."

What type of understanding do you seek? Or what type of understanding do you think I would like to explain?

That sounds like what MartyLK is saying. For example, he says "But God doesn't allow the use of his powers for vengeance or to cause harm to anyone." Now if he believes this, that seems to put him at odds with the Bible. So does he not believe that the Bible is completely correct? Or does he think that the passages I quotes are not vengeful?

What type of understanding do you seek? Or what type of understanding do you think I would like to explain?
I see to understand how people arrive at their morality; how they deal with reality and observation; and how they deal with logical inconsistencies.

My guess is that you may want to explain why what God did was valid.

Without understanding the term covenant and the history of it, you couldn't understand logically what your trying to imply!

I do understand that concept. I also understand vengence. Are you saying that God is not acting vengeful in the passages I quoted?

I'm just saying like the rebuttal to you and atonements argument you may not understand the full meaning behind the text or the symbols and hebrew-isms used in it.
