This little chapel was in the midst of a large number of wooden shacklike businesses on "The Mountan" , a ridge at the Canton First Monday site in Canton, Texas. A huge fire took out much of The Mountain, and although flames were on all sides of it, it alone in that area did not burn. The remaining business owners took it as a sign, and are in the process of working toward rebuilding the area to return it to its old condition.

Linda, the proprietor of StuffNeat, (who will only say that she's older than I am) took it on herself to get things going on reconstruction.

Linda sifted thought the fire zone, finding colored bits of melted glass. She cleans them, and make them into jewelry she calls "fire diamonds", and sells them, donating the proceeds to reconstruction.

Larry and Athena run this little place where Mrs. Barbarian found a very nice set of fairy wings for Kinley. Like all the other people on The Mountain, they were East Texas Friendly, and hospitable, telling us all about The Mountain, and its history.

The Mountain has numerous little bed-and-breakfast establishments. We plan to go back and enjoy a weekend there, soon.

There are numerous artists there, but out of respect for their work, I've not included those in pictures. Suffice to say there's a remarkable sea turtle construction that I intend to include in a bathroom renovation I'm planning for this year. There are also some great places to eat. And all of this is just a small part of First Monday in Canton. If you're east of Dallas in Texas on the first Monday of the month, drop in and see.

What fun I could have there!!
It's really cool that Linda makes the jewelry for the reconstruction project.
Thanks for the pics.
