They are wiser because they know how to use worldly wealth to gain friends and influence people in this life so that it will go well for them in the future. Jesus wants us to do the same. He wants us to use worldly wealth wisely and shrewdly (but innocently) in our treatment of other people so that when it is gone we will be welcomed into the security of our eternal dwelling.
Use your money in a way that will ensure a good future for you--do good to others, like how even people of the world are wise enough to do. Jesus wonders why his people aren't as smart at thinking about their future in the kingdom and storing up favor for themselves using money as evil people are.

I don't think Jesus is saying get worldly wealth, if that's what you mean, but rather dispose of it in a way that gains you future favor. Even the world knows the wisdom of doing that. Jesus wonders why his people aren't smart enough to do that--you know, smart enough to use worldly wealth to store up reward for themselves in heaven. Why aren't we?
