The Children of Darkness

The children of darkness are wiser than the Children of Light. Who are the children of darkness...and how are they wiser?
LK 16:8

doesnt this make you uncomfortable, this biblical statement: and just biblical

There are people of the world that are wise in their business dealings (but all they care about is the world's pleasures)

Jesus is saying in this parable that you can be wise in this world, but have God #1 and be trusted with much!

Luke 16:11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

8 ...for the sons of this age are more shrewd in relation to their own kind than the sons of light.
9"And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of the wealth of unrighteousness (money), so that when it fails, they will receive you into the eternal dwellings." (Luke 16:8-9 NASB parenthesis mine)

They are wiser because they know how to use worldly wealth to gain friends and influence people in this life so that it will go well for them in the future. Jesus wants us to do the same. He wants us to use worldly wealth wisely and shrewdly (but innocently) in our treatment of other people so that when it is gone we will be welcomed into the security of our eternal dwelling.

"...do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great..." (Luke 6:35 NASB)

20 "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal..." (Matthew 6:20 NASB)

Use your money in a way that will ensure a good future for you--do good to others, like how even people of the world are wise enough to do. Jesus wonders why his people aren't as smart at thinking about their future in the kingdom and storing up favor for themselves using money as evil people are.

I totally agree, with this, my tubular bells friend :-)

It is really painful how we disassociate ourselves with the world God gave us for our temporary comfort.

but how do we reconcile this with the gain-the-world-and-lose-your-soul thing?

Ah, you still remember! :lol

I don't think Jesus is saying get worldly wealth, if that's what you mean, but rather dispose of it in a way that gains you future favor. Even the world knows the wisdom of doing that. Jesus wonders why his people aren't smart enough to do that--you know, smart enough to use worldly wealth to store up reward for themselves in heaven. Why aren't we?

really, Jethro? Seems its a totally new world: 'insight'

use the blessings from god to be a blessing unto others.
