The Coming of the Lord

In this thread I hope to discuss the various scriptures that contain the word “coming” which in the Greek is parousia.


Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3

   1. the future visible return from heaven of Jesus, to raise the dead, hold the last judgment, and set up formally and gloriously the kingdom of God

From what the scriptures teach, there are three main things that occur at the coming of the Lord.

1. Resurrection of the dead in Christ
2. Rapture
3. The destruction of the wicked; including the antichrist

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

he told them let no man deceive you
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

this is his return once again the the Church is took out. then at another time frame is when comes back actually we return with him . this is when his wrath is poured out . i dont really study deep prophecy .there is way to many beliefs/ interpretations. i fall back to to the 5 wise 5 foolish the 5 wise was ready with lamps and extra oil. the 5 foolish was not . might i add i have always held the 5 foolish as lost . then talking to a lady at Church she said they was saved but didnt go. . but back to the discussion .this is all in time frame of his return parts of math 24 has been fulfilled. in revelations. we find 3 timings future present past . paul wrote

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

i do how ever firmly believe that the days of the mystery of iniquity are increasing .

there is so many winds of doctrines there are some so open minded there brain has fell out.

that we henceforth be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the sleight of men and their cunning and craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

our common grounds is Christ is returning/coming back .just like the song the king is coming . then i think of the happy Goodmans i believe hes coming back just like he said he would . the stage is set the only thing awaiting is God to tell Christ go get your kids

Yes on the last day which was known and understood that is the gathering of all from the ends of the heavens to the ends of the earth.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Jesus-No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.

It shows a coming of the Lord at the very end of tribulation. The last day that He spoke of. The day the enemies of God are dealt with.

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

I don't want to stray from your OP but want to point out that means those not raised on this day, 1st Res., must be those who suffer.

I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They a had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.

The faithful called to watch

Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

So many say they have plenty of time to make themselves right before the Lord and would rather follow the desires of the flesh, but are sorely mistaken as no one knows when God will send Him forth, not even the angels in heaven, Matthew 24:36-37.

The unfaithful servant:
Mat 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
Mat 24:49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
Mat 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
Mat 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

But yet, many Christians ignore what Jesus said would be the sign of His coming as they are being deceived by another gospel being preached which will cause a great falling away from truth and their own faith before Christ second coming.

Jesus said He will come on the last day at the end of days as at that time the door of salvation is closed forever leaving no one with a second chance to be redeemed as at that time of His coming the judgements will then be made.

John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
