The cross: is it or is it not the symbol of the church?

The true spiritual Church of Christ is the Israel of God; His elect people.
(Matthew 1:21; Ephesians 1:3-11; Romans 2:28-29; 2 Timothy 1:9).

They will not be identified with any of mankind's symbols because they are taught of God.
(Psalm 25:14, 51:6; John 15:15; Romans 16:25-26; Colossians 3:3).

Being crucified on a cross was a common method of execution in times past. And because Christ, the Saviour of His people, was also crucified on a cross, does not justify a reason for anyone to bend the knee, and bow to a cross; for then the cross becomes an idol.

No other religious (or non-religious), object or entity, should ever detract our attention from the one and only God and Saviour Jesus Christ!
(Isaiah 43:11, 45:15, 21, 49:26; Hosea 13:4; Luke 1:47; Hebrews 1:8; Jude 1:25; Titus 2:13).

But we must bow the knee only to Christ and worship Him alone, and not pay any religous homage, adoration or veneration to any other person or thing!

TGBTG!

Oh, geez. To the video, that is.

People really miss the point of the symbol of the cross IMO. It doesn't matter that it originated in paganism, or even if it was first seen as a shape of Stegosaurus droppings. The point of the cross is the simple fact that Christ was crucified on one - and the empty cross is a symbol not only of what He did for me on that cross, but also the fact that He got off of it.

Should we not celebrate Christmas at all just because it takes place during a traditional pagan holiday?

People think too hard about this sort of thing. The point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus - the day in which we celebrate does not matter! Likewise, the symbol of the cross is again a celebration of the gift of salvation rendered by Christ's death on the cross.

Had He been broken on the wheel, or skinned alive, or suffered any other horrendous torture for the penalty of our sins, I guarantee you we would have adopted a symbol that reflected that, as well.

The symbol of what? We have no crosses posted anywhere at my Church. Not even one stained glass window or a steeple. I would also not wear a cross around my neck (Unless the Vampire Apocalypse breaks out of course, Which I would be visiting Catholics Church to grab holy water.)

As you can see here, Christianity must all be fake since the earlier religion similarities. Or maybe some other possibilities.

Micah 5:2
But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

As you can see Jesus always was.

Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

As you can see Jesus at our creation.

Who would have known Jesus? All angelic creations. Would Satan and friends benefit from teaching man falsely and before Jesus became flesh? It seems to be an effective method.

I actually heard awhile back that a lot of churches were beginning to do the same thing, mostly because they were finding that more emphasis was being put on the cross itself than was being put on Christ. I, personally, don't have an issue with it either way, but I can certainly see the potential for it turn into idolatry.

James 1:8

????? :stinkeye

I'm sorry, I just don't see the relevance of James 1:8 here. I see nothing double-minded.

That very well could be. I met a person that had a "Mustard seed" encased in a glass thing he hung around his neck. I asked him about it and was told it helps him have faith because He just needs to have a little faith as a mustard seed. I did not say anything but I was thinking why not just meditate on scriptures instead.

Does wearing a cross make someone feel safer in some way? If so, then I believe that to be an issue also.

James 1:8 must be where the Vampire Apocalypse is mentioned. Going to look it up, just in case.

Good point...

Mike.

I'm sure there are some who feel safer. I've never really understood that, frankly. The Spirit is in us, not some piece of wood or plastic or silver or gold or whatever on a little chain.

Actually, if I remember correctly a cross the looks like a ( + ) is the ancient symbol for the letter (Tav) the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

Funny Deborah13. ha. ha. ha.......... ummm. I guess I reap what I sow.

So we know the danger is there. I guess the next question is, does that "Possible" danger make us not want to associate with (Deborah13's (+)) at all. We do run into complications going the opposite way right? It sounds like a faith issue where some eat food offered to Idles and some won't touch it. Good questions.

I not being critical of you or anyone else. I was just sharing a little tidbit that I thought was interesting.

Sure Deborah13 if you say so..... I am just playing with you. Thank you for sharing that.

What is your answer though? Is having the symbol of the cross a stumbling block for some as we have talked about? If so, do we take a drastic stance against it? What are your thoughts?

I prefer to have a symbol of a open tomb because Death Could not Hold our Lord, and because of that It won't hold us.

Blessings

It's not just the "Pagan" similarities the video above is talking about, it's also talking about whether it is or isn't an idolized "graven image" or if it's right to show off the cross that Jesus died on.

I agree with you though. Pagan parallelism can get quite fickle and redundant.

Zeitgeist is a load of balogne.

Here is a better package.
Age of Deceit
Lucifer's NWO
Aquarius - Age of Evil

To tell you the truth, I have no opinion about it one way or the other.
I don't like to see a crucifix with Jesus still on the cross. He arose in victory for us all.

But if someone wants to wear an empty or a church has an empty cross, I just see His death and resurrection as the message.

Another little tidbit, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the Alef. The symbol stands for the ox. I do find it interesting. Christ is spoke of the servant, the ox, the laborer, Tav the cross. The Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end.
