The Dark Knight

Perhaps one of the most believable superhero movie I have ever seen. The acting was superb, it is very violent and not for kids. The Joker is not a goofy clown but a pure evil terrorist with anarchy and mayhem as his pure motivation. Its a psychological thriller, and an action movie in one. If you have 2 hours and 30 minutes to spend, it is well worth it.

I thought it was a great movie, definitely not for little ones (but my 9 yo brother saw it with me) but I highly recommend it.

OK just a though to put out. Now that you have heard about Christian Bale arrest would people still go and see it? I realise its innocent until proved guilty but until it is cleared up I wouldn't go and see it because of his alleged assault (pushing his mother).

Well I don't see why that would stop me from seeing it. He was already paid. He is not making more money from it at this point. Also if you are going to start making decisions based upon these people doing bad things, you will never go see another film. We have to remember that for a most part the actors in films are not Christians, they are going to do bad things, even Christian Actors will make mistakes. My question now to you is do you watch TV, Sports, movies? Chances our if you do, you have watched someone who has done something like Mr. Bale is being accused of.

This Just in:

Bale was arrested for verbal assault. In England, there are two classes of verbal assault, Class 4 and Class 5. Class 4 is more aggravated than 5, with "an intent to cause alarm."

As the story goes.. His mom and sister were saying things to his wife, that were not very kinds. He got angry started yelling at them and then he and his wife left the hotel, on the way out he pushed his mother out of the way. She was not harmed. He is facing "verbal" assault charges because he cussed loudly at them and was angry.

As I said I realise all the facts aren't in but until they were I would have held off. And yes if anybody singer, star etc did something that was really bad then no I don't go and see it. And it would have to be very big for the news to get to me as I don't read tabloids or gossip magazines. But if something was brought to my attention sure I would act on it!

He was alleged to have physically assaulted his mother which is quite big :o (an assault on a women is dreadful to me of course I wouldn't go and see it) if it turned out to be all a big understanding then OK (which it may appears to be).

But if people kept going to see things after big revelations are made then it just sends the message to movie moguls etc that we don't care which isn't the case. If I know someone is actively into drugs ie Amy Winehouse I don't buy their stuff. If someone Christian or not then apologies for what they did or publicly regrets it or ceases doing it then fine.

This when it broke was big - a man assaulting a woman to me is really bad - only rape or child abuse is worse, forget Christian Bale (as it may not be as big as first thought) but if someone else was charged with abuse would you still go and see or buy their stuff?

I realise I may have gone to see films unknowingly having someone dubious in it but once I am made aware and am no longer ignorant then yes I will take action.

ie I don't go and see Tom Cruise cause of his Scientology and how he pushes that onto others
Michael Jackson used to love his stuff not any more - just for an example.

One thing you have to realize all sins are equal. Humans put value on sins saying one is worse than the other. But to God, each sin is an offense of equal value to him. THinking of assulting a person or killing them is just as bad as if you did it.

Secondly Bale was arrested for Verbal Assault. Which is a crime in England. When the news broke the American agencies ran with the Assault part. The whole story is he was defending his wife, who was being critized by his mother and wife. So I look at that as noble for him to stand up against his family for the woman he married and has been married too for 8 years.

I understand your ideas, but in this world we live in you would be hard pressed to find any entertainment that was not tainted. Either by the artist or the manager, producer, director, executive.

In light of the fact that Ginger has a Thread on the topic of how you decide what movies to watch in General Talk, I'm going to request that this discussion be haulted. I don't think there is a need to have the same discussion going on in two places. If you'd like, I can even request that the discussion be merged with your original thread Ginger.

whatever you think mod :smt023 sure didn't mean this to get heated  (if it is) just an interested discussion in seeing others points of view but you are right there is another thread and I sure didn't mean to hi-jack this thread!

ANYWAYS ... BACK ON TOPIC.

LoL

Best movie, I've seen in a LONGGG time hands down. Heath did a wonderful job, Bale did one heck of a job too, and so did Eckhart ... who was probably my most favourite character in the movie. :smt116

I have not viewed it yet, how does everyone think this film compares to the previous 5? I loved the first 2 movies directed by Tim Burton, but thought the last 3 movies were kinda poor.

I actually found it quite boring. I ended up walking out of the movie lol.

The thing is...we KNOW the Joker is not really gonna die..so..what was the point?

IMO, this one tops the previous 5 films.
Otherwise I would not have seen it twice when it was still in the threaters and bought it on DVD the day it was relased.
While individual tastes vary, I felt that it was the only Batman film that completely caotured the feel of the characters and managed to tell a "realistic" story.

The movie in itself was NOT bad, just I will admit...I was not too thrilled to see this movie being remade. Not that I mean to insult the previous joker for Batman (Jack Nickleson) but Heath did do a better and more accurate depiction. At the same time....sometimes I wonder why people do this trial by error thing with films. After a while it gets old.

On a positive note, this movie was suspenseful!

Loved it!! :thumb :thumb for me, I watched it again last night after buying it on Blu-Ray, it's even better in HD. Aaron Eckhart is the best Two-face ever, but of course our only other big screen two-face was Tommy Lee Jones and I try very hard to forget that movie was ever made.

Don't we all :lol
Anyway,
I loved The Dark Knight. I thought it was a wonderful movie.
And I loved its take on the Joker. These days it seems movies and other forms of entertainment are always trying to get us to feel sympathetic for the villains, and I thought the Joker was a nice change of pace.
I do like a lot of the stories in which the villains aren't entirely bad but it is nice to see a truly psychopathic killer for once, outside of horror/thriller movies.
Plus, I've always been a big fan of Batman. And the Joker's my favorite Batman villain. So of course I would love the Dark Knight. :)

Agreed, Best Joker EVER!

Great Movie, love the whole batman thing, and the new ones with christian bale, he fits the role very well.

The movie is definitely not for little kids but older kids should be fine, I would think. Of course thats the parents decision.

I've seen this a few times now, and I think it's a pretty good movie. Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is astonishing. He's scary! I think it was a brilliant job acting, but I don't really like Christian Bale's Batman very well. Something is weird about his voice. It is pretty violent and also poses a lot of moral dilemnas like "would you kill a boatload of people to save your own boat? would you shoot one man guilty of basically blackmail in order to stop a hospital from being blown up?" Interesting movie.
