The Definition of Good and Evil in the NFL

The NFL's protest against the American anthem is basically an age old struggle of Good versus Evil going all the way back to the story of Adam and Eve. Evil is the desire of a person, or a people, to rule over their own immorality. Those who seek after destructive immoral pleasures and practices will fight in any way to prevent others from ruling over it. As man's definition of immorality is constantly changing the struggle to rule over it will always be an futile pursuit without a permanent standard which we endearingly call 'God and Country'.

Since God created man in his image we are obligated to uphold God's righteousness in our own lives (hint: 10 commandments). God sent his own son Jesus Christ to become man to uphold God's righteousness in the affairs of man, as an individual, which resulted in our salvation for all those who believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus stated that this world is not his kingdom so he refrains from ruling over the immorality of all mankind until we are in his domain, which awaits us in the hereafter.

The simple fact is that when Adam and Eve sinned they acquired God's knowledge of good and evil. This placed God's knowledge of good and evil directly under man's dominion. Our first act would've been to undo God's judgment of death by eating the fruit of the tree of life thereby negating God's authority to rule over our immorality. In essence we would've become permanently evil.

But God stopped us from making our evil permanent by eliminating our access to the fruit of the tree of life in the Garden of Eden which would've undone all of God's judgment. Subsequently Adam and Eve were kicked out of Paradise. Now as an orphan from Paradise we are learning that replicating Paradise is not possible as we struggle to share our own 'riches' with others knowing that we may be promoting the very same evil, an evil that lies in every person as the knowledge of Good and Evil, which resulted in our expulsion from Paradise in the first place.

In Psalm 111:10 it states that the beginning of all wisdom is the fear of God. This fear is a fear of God being the ultimate judge of our immorality, not us. We will learn that our complacency with our very own evil and sin is not shared by God.

An interesting point is that Adam and Eve used only their mouth to sin against God when they ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. Now throughout mankind's history our sin has always been determined on what we can fit in our mouth such as; drugs, alcohol, each others genitals, tobacco, lies, smartphones, etc. Anything bigger than what can fit in one's mouth is of very little use and interest to an evil person.

One begins to wonder that when John was asked to eat a 'little scroll' while in heaven during the Great Tribulation as he viewed mankind's final judgment, as depicted in the Book of Revelation Chapter 10, that the little scroll was in actuality an electronic cellphone of some sort. Since John was a 1st century man viewing the world in the distant future his depiction of a 'little scroll' would resemble today's smartphones, or smartwatch!

We are truly in mankind's last days just before all the events in the Book of Revelation begin to unfold!

Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who was led to the cross to suffer death in order to forgive us of our sins and welcome us into heaven for eternity with God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit!

The Rapture Draws Near!

God Bless

The Dallas Cowboys should be banned from an American game. The owner should be banned from ever owning another team, PERIOD!!

You lost me here: What is the "Good" in your analogy - the National Anthem, the American Way (whatever that is), America itself? And what is the "Evil" - not showing proper respect during the National Anthem, not being sufficiently patriotic, the NFL itself, or what?

I would say that whether one stands and covers his heart or laughs and picks his nose during the National Anthem has precisely nothing to do with Good or Evil. It may be patriotic and respectful and show proper thankfulness for what America means to us to stand and cover one's heart, but I don't see it as an issue of Good vs. Evil.

One can be an entirely patriotic American and believe that America has no more to do with Good in a cosmic sense than Argentina or Zimbabwe does. One can be an entirely patriotic American and believe the country has gone badly astray.

There is no direct correlation between America and Good. There is no direct correlation between being a Christian and being a patriotic American. This is one area where I believe the Jehovah's Witnesses have exactly the right perspective. Equating "good Christian" to "right-wing patriotic American" is one of the really huge mistakes of the evangelical community.

My understanding is that the Cowboys and Cardinals were not protesting any of the things you imply. They were protesting The Donald's heavy-handed intrusion into NFL business by suggesting those who protest should all be fired. Not every private employer who legally could fire an employee for exercising his First Amendment rights chooses to do so - thank goodness.

Perhaps I misunderstood your point?

From what I understand Runner, is any player who kneels down and prays, is fired.

That is not what I have heard from my Father. For it is not what goes into a mans mouth that defiles him, but rather what comes out of his mouth. Evil thought proceed forth from the heart.

So what is good, and what is evil?

From the OP and these other comments, there is an implication that the NFL and these players are evil for not standing for the national anthem, that they should be fired and banned. From the comment above, they are now calling it evil to kneel down and pray, but if they should stand and honor an idol, then that is good?

It's not what goes into a mans heart that defiles him, but what comes out of his mouth. If a player takes a knee and prays, and remains silent while the rest honor an idol, what evil has proceeded forth from his mouth? If they kneel, pray and remain silent, are they not honoring the Lord? But for those who stand and criticize, what can be said of them? For those who call themselves after the name of Christ and participate in the Current Events & Politics forums, who are more than happy to open their mouths and be critical and accusatory towards those who won't worship their Idols, what come out of their mouths? It is evil. They should learn from the players; Honor the Lord and remain silent.

Woe unto those who call good evil, and evil good. For out of one side of the mouth they boast of Daniel and the might of God, but out of the other side of their mouths proceeds the evil thoughts from their heart, as they stand as part of the crowd blaming and condemning Him for not worshiping the Image, demanding that the King punish Daniel, in whom they love to boast for his courage, even his courage before the lions den.

Christians in the first century, remained silent as they were fed to the Lions for Sport.

Isaiah 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil;
that put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

What is good? What is Evil?

It is GOOD to love the Lord thy God with all your heart, and to remain humble before His sight. To acknowledge the Lord and Honor Him in all that you do.

It is EVIL to deny the Lord by sitting in His seat in the temple, acting and showing themselves that they are god.

hey guys tell me realistically how this is a Bible study

I think stories are getting crossed here. A high school coach was indeed recently fired for praying on the field after a game, and as I recall the firing was upheld in court. The Dallas Cowboys (and Cardinals, and others) were protesting what they saw as Donald Trump's intrusion into NFL business by suggesting that those like Colin Kaepernick who don't stand during the National Anthem should be fired. The NFL and the teams who participated were showing solidarity for a player's right to exercise his First Amendment rights, even if his stand is unpopular. To the best of my knowledge, no NFL player has ever been disciplined for kneeling and praying before, during or after a game - it happens all the time when a player is injured. This was my confusion with the OP - what is the Evil we are supposedly talking about?
