The Everlasting Man __ G.K. Chesterton

Aside from the Bible it's the best book I've ever read. He's been dubbed the "prince of paradox" Chesterton is a master logician in the first 1/2 of the book entitled "the man in the cave" he systematicly destroys what he calls "the fancies" of modern day anthropologists who try to justify their explanations of what he calls "the ultimate oxymoron; a history of pre-history" The first two pages of the second chapter are guaranteed to leave the most ardent darwinian speachless. The second 1/2 of the book entitled "the god in the cave" is the best apologetic work I've ever read. But don't take my word for it C.S. Lewis admitted it was the book that converted him from an atheist. Don't be afraid to read this book if your not Catholic there is no mention of denominationalism or the RCC. In later works such as "Orthodoxy" and "Heresy" or " Conversion and the Catholic Church" he does address the reform movement, but this book should not be offensive to any Christian regardless of denomination. I'm telling you this book is dynamite. _______in peace; Deardogma

I have only read the first three chapters of this book. I heard this was the book that caused CS Lewis to convert to Anglicanism from atheism. :-D That's why I wanted to read it; I am a CS Lewis fan, though now I'm a Chesterton fan as well.

I'll have to see if I can get in on Audio. I've got Orthodoxy (fantastic) and "A man named Thursday"

I love his story telling!

Hi OnFireForChrist, I like your screen name :D

"A Man named Thursday", What a twist huh? I loved the attitudes

I actually haven't read that one yet  but I am hoping I'll have it read before the summer ends! I said it was good because most of the things written by Chesterton are very good. :D Have you ever read the Fr. Brown stories?

Hey there On Fire :D

No, I havn't read any of the Fr. Brown's stories. (Actually, never heard of them, can you throw me a link?, or better yet, tell me about one of his stories)

Actually, A man named Thursday was an enjoyable, relaxed and entertaining read. It was neat to see his theology played out in a playful story instead of him writing in response to a heresy. It was fun

Oh, that does sound pretty good! I enjoy his fiction--I am also a fan of his Ballad of the White Horse.

I know you can find him at http://www.online-literature.com as Chesterton, GK or something like that, and it has quite a lot of his works, but I'm not sure if Fr. Brown is there as well. They're detective stories, with a little priest as the detective, though they're clever in that he doesn't always reveal what the outcome was--you're left on your own to figure out the perpetrators of the crimes sometimes. I am a fan of his first few when he helps change a criminal's life and makes him a Christian. :D

Awesome. :D
I just finished reading Everlasting Man--it is a very excellent book! It's up there with Mere Christianity in my book, and it's also up there with one of the best books I've ever read in my life.

Cool. Sounds like my next book :D

Which one do you think I should read first? Everlasting Man, or Mere Christianity?
