The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Has anybody seen it?

My brother (who is a pastor) went to see it and I saw his review on the internet though I haven't talked to him personally about it yet.

It seems like the previews make it scarier then it is and that it focuses more on the courtroom aspect of it and not the demonic possession part.

Having said that, however, no movie can match the supernatural terror of "The Exorcist", that's for sure. :o

Hello guibox,

Even though I don't really care about exorcism movies I've seen this movie twice. My son saw the movie 1st. He knows there are things in this movie that I can relate to (spiritual discernment). After he told me about the hooded figure I had to see it. I plan on buying the book to see if the hooded figure and smelling smoke is mentioned since the movie apparently deviates from the autobiography.

I took my husband (who is a preacher) to see it.

Todd (the man who owns the drive-in, small town) ask him if he thought this could happen??? My husband told him it's in the New Testament. It has people talking about the possibilities, the battle between good and evil. Perhaps everyone should watch this movie, not to chase demons but to get a better understanding of that realm. Keeping the truth in mind, body, and spirit that Jesus Christ is the winning power.

I liked this movie. Its not "The Exorcist" even though there are a few brief moments where it tries to be so it would be unfair to compare the two. This movie is more of a psychological thriller than it is a horror movie. It leaves more open ended questions and leaves the viewer with more to think about than just disturbing images. I recommend it to anyone who likes to think.

I think when the wife goes away for the weekend in January, I will rent this...and not tell her that I did. 8-)

Just saw the previews for this last night. I may also have to check it out soon.

I just rented the DVD and I found it a fairly good movie . I'd have to agree with Scott, it does leave the viewer with more to think about.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.

IM SCARED

To be honest with you, I can't even watch the previews (IM NOT KIDDING) If it NEVER said "Based on True events" I WOULD WANT to see it but I KNOW that if I see it, since some of it is true, I will be scared ALL the time and I WILL have nightmares. I just can't listen to the previews of that "ticking, breathing noise" I don't want to see it. :sad

***SPOILERS***

I saw it today and I must say that I was impressed with the way it was done and the way the spiritual side was portrayed.

It wasn't sensationalistic or completely off the wall. The drama was good and it was a great story with enough 'creepiness' to make it a good horror too. The possession scenes were creepy and authentic without being 'Exorcist'ish.

I liked how they pitted a 'man of faith' in the prosecution against an agnostic defending the priest and the agnostic comes around to understand the issues better than the Christian prosecutor. I like the fact that they showed the defense attorney experiencing some of the demonic oppression.

Overall, one of the better 'horror' movies I've seen in a long while.
