The Generational Curse

Lewis

Member
Does the generational curse' still hold today ? I have heard through the years yes' and no. Then why are babies born sick. And why does a person who tries to do right' just can't seem to get it. Until I am proved wrong' I think it still holds. I have heard it all. So will someone prove me wrong ?

I tend to believe that it is so.

I don't know very much about my biological parents. What I do know seems to line up in such a way that I can see the curses that have come down through the generations.

I can also see the power of God at work in my life, destroying the strongholds.

What do you understand by 'generational curse'?

Biological defects passed down by our DNA or . . .
the consequence of a specific 'sin' being passed down or . . .
something else?

They way that I' understand it. Is that it is passed down by males only. Say for instance' that your great' great' great grandaddy did something ' the Bible says that it can go generations down.

The easiest way to describe it would be to say if you had a great great grandfather that was a drunk, and his son, your great grandfather was a drunk, that this could go on for several generations. Even if you had never had a drink, there could be a 'generational curse' in the family that would get a hook in you with the first drink.

It could be said of medical problems, a particular sin, and other things as well.

For example: Being a 'victim' of something for generations. An unwanted child grows up and gives birth to an unwanted child, and so on.

That sounds about right. And Gabby sometimes you don't even have to take a drink.

Gal 3:5-14 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 6 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." 7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed." 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

The Law Brings a Curse

10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." 11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith." 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but "the man who does them shall live by them."

13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Being under the curse through trying to be justified by the works of the law is contrasted with being blessed as a believer.... See verse 9. The quotation from Deut. 27:26 says that those who do not keep the whole law are cursed, proving that all are cursed who follow the law, because all fall short of the law's standards
Rom 3:10 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Paul quotes Hab. 2:4 4 "Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith''. to demonstrate that a person can only be justified through faith. He cites Lev. 18:5 to prove that keeping the law to gain salvation is utterly incompatible with faith.
Lev 18:5 ''You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the Lord''.

Paul knew that many of his readers would perceive that they were actually under the curse of the law...see verse Gal 3:10 above. For them as for us it is incredibly comforting to know that Christ became that curse for us on the Cross Deut. 21:23.'' his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God.

Lewis.. Thanks because this will go very well in my are u saved thread...:) Oh and I hope it changes your mind on generational curses. I too believed in them up until about 1 maybe 2 years ago, when I studied every verse in the bible relating to curses....
Blessings,

Oh, you know what I should have said and added to my above post;

That I still do believe in curses but they will only affect the none believer...
I also believe that it will take a Christian to break a Generational curse...
But as far as the Christian Goes, I stand by my above post :)

As I started to write that I got to thinking of these people that believe we are saved by the works of the Law, so my mind started to wander :roll:
