The Gospel and the cross.

Your thoughts? Mine: The Gospel is for the lost and the cross is for salvation. The gospel alone does not save but the cross which is accepting Jesus as Lord does save.

The cross is defined as self denial and is denying self for His sake, IOW is accepting Him as Lord , then one is a confessing Christian instead of only believing as a mental state of which one is lost.

An over simplification.
The gospel is the message of that one needs salvation, what that salvation is and how to be saved.

The gospel always teaches about the cross, that Jesus died on it bearing our sins, guilt, shame and punishment, and that he rose again.

Any 'gospel ' message that does not teach that is not the gospel.
