Yes it is fascinating, isn't it? Are you familiar with the 4 levels of interpretation?
1. Pashad level= plain sense of the text (the who, what, when, where, and how)... the story of what’s being told.
2. Drosh (homiletic level) = Midrash= to glean principle and application and teach someone else how to do better. So when we go into the Torah and do our basic study, we’re Midrashing. Beit midrash = house of study.
3. Esoteric level= hidden and secretive. This is whereTorah is talking about something and never once uses the word.
4. Sod (mysterious) level= This can range from numerology to the Bible codes. (Sir Isaac Newton spent the majority of his life studying Bible codes in the Torah! He has more writings about the study of the Torah than he had about any scientific project he worked on. And he did all the calculations by hand!)
