When Jesus said see to it you tell knowone but they went and told the whole city.

Is there a point or purpose behind that scripture saying dont tell anyone and did Jesus know they were going to tell everyone?. Why did he say it if it was only going to cause them to sin against him.

LOL, you are heart warming to an old man, Dan. I remember these same questions as I journeyed through the scriptures. There are a number of things the Spirit has seen me learn from this small and, apparently, not captivating verse. Remember, Jesus was here to lead the World, through His followers to the foot of His Father's throne and to God we are but small, still growing children.

To this day I recall telling one3 of the kids not to tell their mom something so that they would have the pleasure of sneaking away to go tell. There lays one facet, He needed them to spread the word and to begin to discover the joy of giving the gift they were given away to others. And each time they succeeded in leading one into grace, then as now, their Joy was multiplied.

Since Jesus divested Himself of His Diety (Philipians 2:&) so that, like mankind, He was fully dependent on God, the Father. So it is that the question of how much He knew can be, hotly, debated, did the Father tell Him? Did He know? This question cannot be answered while we are not ascended yet.

There was a reason He said this.

And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
(Luk 5:14)

IN this case, a known Leper had to go to the Priest first to get a bill certifying He was clean, or He would be in hot water. So, before drawing attention to himself, He sent the man to the priest first.

And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
(Mar 1:42-44)

And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
(Mat 8:4)

And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
(Mat 9:27-30)

This case Jesus departed and the only two that followed where two blind men. I have to imagine He wanted to keep things clam for awhile, but it did not end that way and the Pharisee's got involved after they found him and he healed the devil possessed guy.
--------------------------------------------------
But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country. As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
(Mat 9:31-34)

--------------------------------------------------------
Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
(Mat 12:14)

But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; And charged them that they should not make him known: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
(Mat 12:15-17)

IN this case, Jesus was trying to get away from the pharisee's, but the people followed him, so charged them not to say anything to get the Pharisee's all stirred up.

There are times to deal with stupid people like the Pharisee's, and times to operate with those that receive, not having to explain yourself of put up with conflict.

Mike.
