The Leaven

There is today the leaven of false teaching revealed in a host of isms that are not in line with the Word of God.

There is leaven of selfishness, the leaven of the works of the flesh, the leaven of worldliness creeping into the Church. Surely much of the Church has been permeated with the leaven of fermentation. That is what Christ come into His Church.

We hhave another matter to consider. Who is the woman who introduced the leaven into the meal? She was not a real woman , of course, but a symbol, as the meall, the vessel, and the leaven are symbols. There was only one woman that she could be. That is the woman of REvelation 17, Mystery, Babylon the Great, the mother of all harlots and abominations of the earth. This woman is commonly supposed to be the church of Rome, but this symbolic woman involves her and more. She is the apostate Christian church. She is represented in any religion that seeks to dominate and direct world powers. She is the spirit of Jezebel that got into the church at Thyatira and caused the people to commit spiritual fornication, union with the world: ( Rev. 2:20).

When the Church joined in with the world, the world introduced its doctrine and its works of the flesh. The introduction of leaven into the Church was in guise of a friendly act, but actually it was insticated by Satan through the agency of the woman. The Church sought ease from ppersecution, to share in the splendor of the world. Instead of the Church's converting the world, the world brought paginism into the Church.

Notice that the work of the woman was not an open work, but a stealthy one. She hid the leaven in the meal. It was a covert act, like the enemy who sowed the tares under the cover of night. So it is that those who bring evil into the Church do so slyly under the pretense that they are bringing in a benefit. Their evil practices are all glorified and made out to be a good thing. The worship of Mary, the veneratioin ofvrelics, the selling of indulgences, and the countless pious frauds that are practiced are all extolled, defended and a good thing. But the Roman Church is not the only one affected 9 and there are born-again people in that church). The lukewarm Laodicean spirit is affecting all churches to some degree, even those who claim to be among the ranks of the Full Gospel movementy. The leaven of the world is doing its deadly work. The visible church as a whole will never be freed of this leaven. It is therefore, peparing for judgment. Read Rev. 3:15-18.

The leaven in Christendom will never be removed until Christ comes, but this does not apply to the individual or to the local church. To the local church Paul said, Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump. as ye are unleavened ( 1 Cor. 5:7).

As usual, I agree with you. I think the biggest problem is knowing what is false teaching. Something someone has done since he became a Christian and did in a church building may be false and said person does not know it, nor does any one else on the congregation. I know very well that there are things taught and practiced by good Christians that are not biblical and may even be terribly wrong. Something like putting greenery into a Church building at Christmas time was started by Druids, which is pagan. I won't say that will lead anyone to "hell"(eternal cutting off from God). I think we need to examine ourselves to see if we are not doing anything that is pagan or even anti Christian (such as Tarot cards, for example).
Thanks for your great posts, golfjack.

One of the most interesting and mysterious requirements of the Passover would have to be the issue of the unleavened bread.

What could it mean?

First of all, God demands of the Israelites: For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. From the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day. For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And whoever eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel, whether he is an alien or native-born. Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live, you must eat unleavened bread.â€Â

God makes it clear that throughout the time frame of the Passover, yeast was not to be considered acceptable in any event, shape or form and declared: No yeast is to be found in your houses. Whoever eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel.
Matthew records a parable spoken by Jesus: The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.

Yeast in spiritual terms is hypocrisy

Luke records Jesus warns his disciples: Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
A confrontation with the Pharisees leads Jesus to say: Woe to you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to knowledge. You yourselves have not entered and you have hindered those who were entering.
The premise on which the Pharisees had placed their theology, stripped them of knowledge, and taken to its final conclusion, deceived all who received their teachings.

Just as the Israelites were warned to abstain from any association with yeast during the Passover, the Gentiles have been warned to beware of false teaching that feeds on self righteousness that results in hypocrisy and leads to the same judgment as Satan and concludes with expulsion from communion with God.

Jesus expands on this and refers to yeast in theological terms as a self-righteous indulgent form of hypocrisy.

The most frightening aspect of this is that one could enter into this state without realising it, thus proclaiming a theological distortion, denying the righteousness that comes by faith through the cleansing of the blood of Jesus, and establishing the foundation of a theological life-force that is based on works, that being the spirit of the anti-Christ.

To put this into perspective we could focus on two teachings of Jesus.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?†The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.â€Â
“They also will answer, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?â€Â

‘He will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.â€Â

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.â€Â

One thing seems for sure about this parable. Both the sheep and the goats were surprised at the judgment handed down to them.

The interpretation of this parable is very clear. The sheep reflect the nature of the vine as they walk by faith - without considering the benchmark of right or wrong according to human intelligence.
On the other hand, the goats have focused on trying to appease God by carrying out a lifestyle based on a code of ethics that is initiated by reason of human intelligence, claiming a self-imposed justification of works that leads to self righteousness and eternal damnation.

To totally drench ourselves in the warnings that Jesus gave us as to the stench of hypocrisy and self righteousness we would do well to identify with the intensity by which Jesus spoke to hypocritically infested religious teachers of that day, being the Pharisees and Sadducees.

It is also interesting to note that Jesus did not refer to specific individuals in his condemnation, but rather to a sect of religious persuasion.

One day as the disciples were with Jesus they had forgotten to take some bread with them. Jesus seizing the opportunity said to them be careful; be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Jesus went on to explain that he was not telling them to guard against yeast used in bread, but against the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Gentiles have not grown up with the knowledge of leaven as in sacrificial rites and accordingly are unable to fully understand the significance of yeast as being unacceptable to God.

Leaven is a fermenting agent that in biblical times was added to a new batch of bread dough by using a portion of unbaked dough from the previous batch.

Through the fermenting process the yeast penetrates the entire loaf, thus displaying a life of its own.

So leaven is the vital force of the vegetable world as blood is of the animal. Both were prohibited from being offered in a sacrifice that was burned on the altar.

Just as yeast is the vital life force of the vegetable, so the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees have a life force of hypocrisy that contaminates all who embrace their theology. And in so doing, become puffed up with an arrogance of self righteousness believing themselves to be God’s servants sent out to change the world to become like them. Presenting a false gospel that is based on works which is no gospel at all and brings with it a condemnation with words spoken by Jesus as follows:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.â€Â
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.â€Â
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.â€Â
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.â€Â
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside yoappear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.â€Â
“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?â€Â

No less surprising than your interpretation of this parable.

Mutrein’s friend wrote: “The interpretation of this parable is very clear. The sheep reflect the nature of the vine as they walk by faith - without considering the benchmark of right or wrong according to human intelligence.â€Â

No, it’s not about following or not following human intelligence. The sheep hear his voice and they follow him. They actually do what he tells them to do. They actually feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit those who are sick and in prison. They love one another as he told them to do. They are not playing church. They are not hypocrites.

Mutrein’s friend wrote: “On the other hand, the goats have focused on trying to appease God by carrying out a lifestyle based on a code of ethics that is initiated by reason of human intelligence, claiming a self-imposed justification of works that leads to self righteousness and eternal damnation.â€Â

No, the goats are playing church. They are studying their Bibles to find ways of ignoring what Jesus told them to do. They are attending prophesy seminars that take the focus off of what Jesus taught when he spoke to the multitudes. They expel “demons†from their churches by demonizing the very ones who try by God’s grace to do the works of God, loving and serving one another for the love of their Lord Jesus Christ. They call it “self righteousness†to try to live according to the true gospel of Jesus quoted in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Mutrein’s friend wrote: “To totally drench ourselves in the warnings that Jesus gave us as to the stench of hypocrisy and self righteousness we would do well to identify with the intensity by which Jesus spoke to hypocritically infested religious teachers of that day, being the Pharisees and Sadducees.â€Â

The Pharisees and Sadducees were not living by the law that they were supposed to be teaching. They taught one thing and did another. They did NOT love one another but loved riches and prestige. They were so greedy and hateful that they even “devoured widows houses.†They were liars, murderers and thieves who stole from the poor and even put the most righteous to death by false charges. They accused the Son of God of using the power of demons to do his good works. No wonder Jesus warned them to repent and warned us not to do like they did.
