The name Jehovah
Ancient Hebrew was written without vowels. The word “God” looked like this: יְהֹוָה
It was written right to left.
יְהֹוָה ה(yod, maybe silent) וָ (V or W) ה (hay) יְ (yod)
<<<<-------------------------------------------------------<<<
During the 2nd temple period, (516 BC and 70 AD) the Jews, wanting to avoid misusing the name of God just stopped using it all together.
When the scriptures were read aloud, they would substitute another name for God like,” אֲדֹנָ”. (Adonay)
Later, when written Hebrew included vowel pointing, the vowel points from Adonay would be used to remind the reader to use the name, “Adonay.”
If someone erroneously added the vowel points from of the name Adonay to the name יְהֹוָה, he would transform YHWH into Ya-Ho-Vah. (Jahova)
The last verbal use of the name YHWH ended more than 2500 years ago so no one knows for sure what it sounded like.
The name Jehovah was manufactured because people refused to use the name of God. Instead, they used Jehovah because it was most certainly NOT God’s name and, by using it, they would avoid misusing God’s name while everyone hearing Jehovah”would know to whom the reader was referring. (God)
