Not just about newspapers only: the Internet, music etc do distract a lot of us from worshiping God.

I have realised that I spend more time on my private things (some of which are not necessary at all) than on things like studying HIS Word in details, praying until there seems nothing left to pray about, evangelizing to people until there seems to be no more person left on the street.

someone said, I read my newspaper in church to cool off (relax).

some are like this man in the sense that once they enter the church they get distracted.

Unfortunately they are in every church today. Some are there because they have been dragged to church by their spouse, others are what I call the luke-warm Christians; in which they are there just to be seen but have no interest in Jesus or God's Word.

In this day and age there are many distractions which try to pull us away from God. But we need to be strong in the Word and know we have already won the battle against all distractions.

I sometimes have a hard time with the distractions of this world as well. I have my hardest time at work.

My job is very secular in that it deals with generating money. It bothers me the most. It's not anything against God, but by the time I leave the office I'm usually a spiritual mess.

What I pray for, is that God might be use me in the market place, but what I feel is that I may no longer belong there. It's a tough spot for me. This is how I make my living. It's all I know really and yet, I feel the most distant from God when I'm working.

We learn from Jesus that Satan and the birds (demons) come to steal the word from your heart as soon as it is given. This explains why you can go to church on Sunday and leave out and enter back into worldliness (a system headed by Satan that intentionally leaves God out). Proverbs 4:23 NLT says, "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."

The scripture says it like this, "Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11 NKJV

it is a common experience to start to be uncomfortable and continue to be uncomfortable when the conscience prompts seeking Yhwh the Creator.
don't move too quick (as in don't quit necessarily to resolve those feelings), as apostle paul wrote about such a circumstance in one of his letters in the New Testament. (something like - whatever your job is when you get saved, don't leave the job too quick after being saved - stay until Yhwh moves you Himself (Yeshua is Lord , He will take care of the circumstances and will guide the steps of those who are His). )

the 'requirement' of belonging to Yhwh in Yeshua is to turn all these things over to Him, everything, thoughts, words, deeds, possessions, friends, family, jobs, work, ... everything for Him to do as He pleases and for us to work with all of our heart and soul and mind and strength serving Him as He leads us in all we do. our jobs are His decision, our work, our residence(when we have a place to stay), what to wear, what to eat, He takes care of all of this as long as we remain more valuable than a sparrow to Him. (see 'sparrow' in the New Testament).

Absolutely.

In some sense its hard. I (we) suffer and struggle. and yet in another sense I draw closer to God in my suffering and struggle.

I think for me, it's the unknown. I can deal with a lot of unknowns, but the one I am weakest with tends to deal with my prosperity and affluence.

This is an area of my life I've always controlled before I knew God and one I've known I'd have to painfully deal with in my Christian life.

God and I have been walking together for years now and I have grown. He's tested me, developed me, still does and this is one of those big areas for me.

Hey thanks for your encouragement. Good words.

The newspaper would be the least of one's worries as far as distractions go, I'd think. Especially if you're like me, and view it as something of no particular interest aside from keeping up with current events. (And the comics, which I spend maybe 20 minutes reading through them all and maybe chuckle a time or two. The comics barely cross my mind until the next time I have a Sunday paper.)

For me, the danger is more in my fandoms, the series and characters I get into and tend to think about to the point of drawing fan art or writing fan fiction.

I like to know what is going on in our world.I rarely read the whole article and usually the headlines. There are so many horrible things going on in our world today I do not have the heart to read the details.

I shudder at what happens in the midst of our choir. No respect for GOD. The situation is worse than what happens in a football stadium - do as you like. sorry to say this. that is just the truth
