How is it missing from the KJV? You should have said in the KJV it was not ADDED from the critical text.

ESV is my main one but I'll use just about any other as well. One just has to be aware of the issues and limitations of each.

I was given my 1978 NIV as a HS graduation gift from my mom and dad's Methodist Church. Who knew it would become my most prized possession after I got saved in 1986. I have learned tons from it.

My understanding is, all Bibles are translations, but some are more interpretive and not as literal. And I mean grammatically interpretive, not doctrinally interpretive. It seems the NIV is a good grammatical interpretation of the Bible and largely avoids the attempt to interpret the Bible doctrinally. I detest Bibles that interpret doctrine and not just the words.

In these last few years, I've found the NASB useful as a literal translation. After learning a lot from my NIV I got curious about literal translations of the Bible to see how far, if any, my NIV had strayed. Sometimes I purposely compare how the NIV interprets/translates a verse with how it is literally translated in the NASB. I've come to the conclusion that the NIV is probably a very, very good translation of the Bible for it being considered a more interpretive Bible.

The KJV? I only read it when that's all that is around. IMO, it has too many mistakes and misleading translations. Though I would agree with Mikey to some extent about the consistency in word usage. I've gleaned insights because of that. And I like how it italicizes words that don't appear in the original but are put there to make it grammatically correct in English. Other than that, the KJV can sit right on mom and dad's coffee table where it belongs....adored and praised, but untouched. Or next to the terlet for those occasional butt numbing reading sessions.
