The Passion of the Christ: Recut

I don't think it's a bad idea, but I think people should see what Christ truly went through. What do you think?

I agree that people should see what He went through, but then the recut version will be appropriate for a larger audience, so the message is getting out to more people. I haven't seen the Passion yet but my parents have, and they want me to see it.

I personally don't agree with it. Its almost like they're trying to water down Christ's death. I realize that it'll attract more of an audience, but at what price?

And show me in the bible where Jesus went through the bloody mess that was the flogging scene? How is taming down 10-15 minutes of slow motion, flesh- chunking, bloody flogging going to make anyone not feel the impact of what Christ went through.

Have you counted the amount of flogging that Gibson had them do? I be it didn't match the 39 'whips' that was customary for any prisoner.

Christ would have died in minutes for losing that much blood, never mind even being able to walk properly. Gibson blew it up big time due to the Catholic mindset that by partaking in Christ's suffering in some way, we are better people.

This movie was Catholic dogma through and through folks. Toning it down for younger audiences shouldn't take away from the impact of what Christ went through.

Or are we all sadists?

Having said all that, I liked the movie greatly.

I think it should be done so more people can see it.

I'm not certain of the verse, but the Bible talks about how his face was so disfigured that he was unrecognizable. I even saw an interview where Gibson spoke that he had to tone it down just because it was so gruesome.

You can lose over half of your blood and still function, you go into shock adn your kidneys will shut down and will eventually die, but for a short while a person could function somewhat.

The bible doesn't need to get detailed about the floggings, the early Christians saw and were flogged like this so it didn't need to be explained to them.

Sure edit it to get more people to watch it. The point is that they try to read the bible too. :D

Christ Could

Turn Water to wine

causing Lepers cleansed

give Sight back to the blind

be flogged with whips that have bone and metal on them

carry a 100 pound cross of rough wood on his shredded skin

come back to life after 3 days..

yeah i think he could take the beating. several times over at that

He did those miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It was His flesh that was beaten to a pulp and hung on the cross.....as fully human as any of us.

Anyone heard when the RECUT version will be out on DVD or VHS???

It didn't seem that historically accurate, it's believed the Romans only slightly scourged those who were going to be crucified so they would still remain capable of carrying their cross...

As of which, it's been proven that it's impossible for any man of average build to walk as far as they were required to without collapsing if carrying the full cross; therefore it's believed they only were required to carry part of it and it was assembled on the site. I doubt they would have treated Jesus with any other treatment given they viewed him as just another man defying the law.

Of course, there’s also the debate of what the cross was actually shaped like… but that’s quasi-irrelevant

If someome believes in Christ; it's an emotional movie. If someone doesn't and are not a sadist, I doubt they would even bother to watch a minute. If the individual is a sadist... well, they shouldn't even watch it but I know several who gained happiness from it.

No, that's incorrect. He was the only PERFECT, SINLESS human --- and I guarantee you, he did endure far worse -- physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually -- than any "fully human" person could even imagine, let alone endure. Yes, any other person would have died long before the beating, carrying of the cross, or crucifixion had been fully withstood. That's why we needed Him to undergo it. Nobody else possibly COULD have.

It's why God didn't change this event before it had actually occurred when Jesus cried to God "Let this cup pass from me". It was the price. It couldn't be paid any other way.

Our greatest loss and sorrow. Our greatest gift and joy.
