The Practice Of Targeted Dreaming
Joel 2:28 promises that the end-time army will move in prophecy, dreams and visions. All of these things are directed specifically by the Lord as He wills. Unlike in the occult world, the servants of God do not use things like lucid dreaming to control and manipulate what they will see and hear in dreams.
That said, there is an important principle that should be understood when it comes to operating in the prophetic, and that is that one can request of the Lord prophetic insight on specific issues. It's in reality no different than when the Kings of Israel used to enquire of a prophet concerning whether they should go to war or not. They were seeking prophetic insight from God, needing to know whether they would succeed in battle or not.
One such instance is when Jehoram King of Israel and Jehoshaphat King of Judah went to Elisha the prophet to ask God if they should attack the kingdom of Moab.
9 So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched on that roundabout route seven days; and there was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them. 10 And the king of Israel said, “Alas! For the Lord has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.” 11 But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?” So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” 12 And Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him... 16 And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 17 For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ 18 And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. 19 Also you shall attack every fortified city and every choice city, and shall cut down every good tree, and stop up every spring of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones.” (2 Kings 3:9-19)
Another was when Jehoshaphat and Ahab enquired together of the prophet Micaiah whether they should attack Ramoth Gilead.
3 And [Ahab] the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight at Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 5 Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire for the word of the Lord today”... 13 Then the messenger went to call Micaiah and spoke to him, saying, “Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Please, let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement”... 19 [But] Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of Heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left. 20 And the Lord said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner and another spoke in that. 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ 22 The Lord said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the Lord said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 23 Therefore look! The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you.” (1 Kings 22:3-5, 13, 19-23).
Divine revelation was also sought by the prophet Daniel concerning the fate of his people. His fasting and prayer resulted in an angelic visitation, and receiving the requested revelation from God.
2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. 3 I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. 4 Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, that is, the Tigris, 5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man (i.e. an angel) clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire... 10 Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling. 12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.” (Daniel 10:2-5, 10-12)
Targeted dreaming is a tool that can be used in a similar way to receive prophetic insight from God about a specific issue. It works better if there is a small team of people seeking God together if they all move in the prophetic, because they're praying collectively for insight on the same issue, and each is capable of receiving from Him.
As I have often said, operating in the prophetic is the birthright of the children of God, and while some may receive heavenly visions and others receive direct utterance, others are used of God to receive dreams, and together these form the backbone of how the Lord Jesus Christ will reveal prophetic truth to His people in the end-times.
