The problem of EVIL?

I was wondering if anyone knows a good defense to the question we are posed with of: "How is there a God if there is so much evil in the world?"

I am looking for any tips or pointers on how to answer this question...I would appreciate any insight

Thank you and God Bless!

God loves us so much that He gives us choices - follow Him or follow the enemy. Thus, evil exists.

Simply put, IMO, evil exists to punish evil. Eventually though the top members of evil will fall by the hand of God Himself.

The law entered that the transgression might increase.

Where transgression increases, grace much more increases.

Our unrighteousness commends God's righteousness.

A good question to ask is "how much is too much evil?" :nod

Thanks for the reply...I actually ended up finding a pretty argument for it here: http://www.youtube.com/user/rationalres ... y1NLonlWUY

What a tactless reply to that kid. Why is he screaming at him? Why is he being so rude?

I love his reference to 'Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato' in terms of the 'laws of logic.' As far as I know, only Aristotle published anything on the 'laws of logic', and I don't recognize anything in what the kid in the video said as an actual reference to Aristotle's authorship.

I feel like any Nietzschean with half a brain, and the education to call him out on his weak philosophical references, would tear this guy to shreds.

Actually, the substance of the argument in that video is quite profound and workable, and is the basis for most theodicies. But goodness, PLEASE do not imitate whoever that is.

He gives us a free will, and we do much evil. Does that make sense?

I didn't watch the video so maybe this has already been addressed, but the source of evil in this world is mankind. God created a perfect earth, with perfect weather, no killing/no dying, etc. When Adam and Eve sinned, the world fell. Death entered the world by disease, murder and natural disaster. David states in the psalms that God is the lord of heaven, but that he has "given the earth to the sons of men". God does not interfere with our free will. He gave US dominion.

Does that help?
