The question "are you saved?"

Have you ever thought about how this question makes you feel when another person wants to know if you have been saved?
The big question, are you saved?

I have always felt like, should'nt they know already, can't they tell?

Good point. :)

I have a neighbor who asked another neighbor that question.

I have always felt that my faith was really strong, so I always wondered why would another christian ask me if I was saved, do I look different than they do?

Being saved is not about how we look.

I know some people that look like they might have been members of the Manson family but they are very godly men and women.

Being saved is about believing the gospel and has nothing to do with how a person looks.

I think it is a legitimate question.

I am asked that question from time to time and it has led to some good conversations.

I might asked the person who asks me "if I am saved" the same question and then ask them on what basis do they believe that.

Since when is it inside the realm of man to determine who is saved and who is not?

Fair question.

The answer to that is that it isn't up to man to determine who is saved or not.

When someone asks the question "are you saved" they can mean any number of things.

We do know the criterion for Salvation.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

I can't know for certain if someone is saved or not. Just because they profess to believe the gospel does not mean that they understand or accept it.

If a person claims to be saved but believes in another way to God but denies that it is through the gospel then you can be reasonably certain that this person needs to hear and receive the gospel to be saved.

When someone asks another person if they are saved it generally means do they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and the gospel.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

I trust this scripture to be true...

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Here is a gospel tract that you might find of value.

I feel that this question, "are you saved" could cause a person to feel that they are being judged as to what level they are on as far as their worthiness of, or closeness to God, and caused to feel that this person who is asking this question is comparing worthiness to one anothers belive system, faith, and spirituality.

A person is either saved or they are not. It has nothing to do with our spiritual growth.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

How can a Christian witness and share the gospel with the lost if they cannot ask a question like that?

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Do you see what I mean? The issue of salvation is the most important issue their is.

Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

In His service,

Robert

I love it when people ask me this question, although it doesn't happen very often. It gives me an opportunity to talk to them about Christ and have some fellowship.

Me too! I may not be asked in the exact words "are you saved" but they might ask me if "I am a Christian or Do you know Christ"?

I meet fellow believers all the time at my job. I have gospel tracts and free
bibles to give away setting out in the open.

I work for some very good Christian people and they support me in putting out information on Christ and the message of salvation. :D

I think claiming one of "saved" opens the door to arrogance. Why not jsut live your life the best you can and not worry about what happens after?

I get asked "You're one of those Jesus types aren't you" or "There's something about you I just can't put my finger on - what is it" - that makes me feel really great!

A person who is saved has nothing to brag about. I agree with you that a person needs to be careful and not be arrogant.

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
