The Roman Church And Others. Are Their Sworn Vows Of Evil?

Greetings. One of the more educational learnings for me about the church of the Lord, is that although He declared all sworn vows, from the day of His Word on the subject, to be of the evil one, He did not purge His church of sworn vows. Indeed, Paul and four others are recorded in Acts, as not repenting of sworn vows, but continuing to be devoted to them.

The consequences of this are gigantic, and continue and develop over time. We'll get into them a lot here soon.

It is probably essential to point out that there is marriage which is agreement driven by God Himself, which is not the same as evil ball-and-chain "marriage" which is sworn with vows, as many churches still legislate. I have met a number of couples who manage to repent one to the other, and my sweet Lori and I have been happily married since 1996.

Hidden In Him

The Church, being the body of Christ with Jesus being the head of the body, must learn what making vows are all about as God expects us to fulfill the vows we make. Here is what scripture says about making vows.

Numbers 30:1-16 is about the vows women and men make and that God expects them to keep these vows.

Deu 23:21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
Deu 23:22 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.
Deu 23:23 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.

Ecc 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
Ecc 5:5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

Mat 5:33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Mat 5:34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
Mat 5:35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
Mat 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
Mat 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

I'll have to agree that it is very good to know what they were -- special agreements in prayer with God, with unusual convictions and bindings involved -- but generally less about what they are now. Because one of the really big changes in the world that Christ the Lord enacted, is the elimination of all goodness, all holiness, all Godliness, all service to God, of all sworn vows.

This is enormous, but there is immediate more: the Comforter did not purge the earliest church, of swearing of vows. Paul himself, according to Acts 18, did not repent into Christ in this regard, at least not as far as is recorded.

This laid grounds for the Roman church and those very few others it did not destroy when it was in that business, to keep the Roman vow-swearing nationbuilding system, and even build it up into worse for about a thousand years.

Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. (After the flood of Noah's day)
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

These followers of Nimrod, being of the lineage of Ham through his son Cush, were an evil people wanting to make a name for themselves vowing to build a tower that would reach heaven acting in a unified rebellion against God, but instead God scattered them and confused their language and the tower was never completed as they were evil and rebellious against God. Genesis 10:6-19

You can do a study about Nimrod and the Roman Catholic church having its origins in paganism. I will not discuss this, but ask anyone interested to go do their own study.

Much happier, to discuss the freedom which Christ the Lord has available! But the situation is really quite simple, regarding any nation of this world, whatever it call itself this millennium or any other, built upon the swearing of vows.

Many jump in the middle without understanding the beginning and the end.
