That would have to have been a very long time ago. Fifty-three years ago, when I took my first histology class, the functions of the spleen were discussed by the professor.

The cords of Bilroth, for example are an important reserve of WBCs for fighting infection. That one stuck with me because I had a friend at the time, named Bill Roth.

The spleen also filters out defective blood cells and maintains a reserve of blood for the body.
