[__ Science __ ] The Surprising Effects of the Scopes Trial—100 Years Later

The article is trying really hard to create this narrative of the Evolution community vs Christians, however that was not the case at the time.

In 1925 Tennessee passed the Butler act preventing the teaching the theory of Evolution or any Biology that contradicted Christianity. The Scopes trial was where a the teacher John Scopes was accused and convicted for teaching the theory of evolution in a public school.

The article jumps around but misses some key dates. In 1965 the federal government started sending funding and unifying state school curriculum which led to federal protections becoming more involved in public schools. Since the first amendment of the US constitution protects the freedom of the people to practice their religion and restricts the federal government from establishing a religion states receiving federal funding could no longer ban or restrict topics on religious grounds nor force students to adopt a specific religious interpretation.

If the trial happened today John Scopes could appeal and challenge the ruling to the supreme court.
