The Trinity has been explained, re-explained, and mis-explained by thousands of well meaning people through the centuries. We use mysterious, philosophical language which leaves people confused and unconvinced. Just this once let's let the bible itself define it.
God has described himself to us as closely as he could in the only way we could understand. He describes himself as Father, Son, Holy Ghost (I Jn.5:7) and these three are one God. What can we compare this to? We can only see father, son, mother and these three are one family. In viewing God as a family (as he intended) some things in the bible come into clearer focus.

-God is invisible (Col.1:15). My family is invisible too, you see individual members of the family but "the family" itself cannot be seen.
-God is a spirit (Jn.4:24) My family also is a spirit, something felt when you come into our presence but untouched by the flesh.
-No man has seen God (Jn.1:18)
This is God's definition and is as close as we'll get to understanding till we stand before him. Mysterious, profound, yet logical and down to earth.
