My sheep hear my voice. Can you hear the voice of God? I heard it once, no mistaking it. I just knew. How important is it to be able to hear the voice of God?

Jesus didn't say, I only do what I hear the Father say. He said, I only do what I see the Father do. A picture is worth a 1000 words. Do you realize that over half of thew bible is from visions? It's what I heard at least, and it got me to thinking. (Uh-oh)...:confused2 How else could have Moses wrote Genesis? lol. He saw it.

Do you get pictures in your minds eye, when you read books? I do. That's our imagination giving us the pictures. Visions and dreams seems to be a favorite communication of God

Act 2:17
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:.../

That's us, Brothers and Sisters. So while we're waiting to hear God's voice, maybe we should keep in mind that He likes to talk through pictures and visions. Maybe that's why we're supposed to pray with our eyes closed? :coffee

Are we? Is there any command or example in Scripture?
nothing says pray with eyes closed i pray driving down the road eyes open....i think closing our eyes in prayer is good but not a commandment

God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit ..the still small voice if we are his sheep we should hear his voice

No there's not, but that's what someone told me somewhere along the line, lol...

Rough crowd here, lol. Boy, I think that if I ever have a visitation from the Lord that I prolly wont come here and share it. It'd make people mad and I'd get called a liar! :shame

A million years ago ... i was asking mom why doesnt God talk to ME He does this and that for so and so... on and on i went... after my rant mom said '''Shut up and listen "

Good point Sister, prayer is not a monologue! It's a dialogue. Pray, close your eyes, and wait, listen...look!

Exactly, Brother. But since Jesus said, I only do what I see the Father do...what should we do with that? Anything?

I wish I had coffee, I'm so tired.

dirtfarmer here

Reba, you can't be a million years old. I didn't see you in my 999,999th year and now I am in my 1,000,000 year. "You are still a spring chicken".

As to praying with our eyes closed, maybe that is why there are so many shipwrecks. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 states that we are to "Pray without ceasing". If we can't see where we are going because our eyes are closed, are we not subject to run aground?

Literally every morning I wake up I go into the throne room and tell the Father and the Son I love them. I mean, visually in my Spirit I do.

That's usually what happens when I'm praying and waiting for an answer to something...I wind up falling asleep, lol. Worse could happen I guess. :coffee

Amen, Sister! Now that's the right way to start a day. In His presence.

A very good case can be made that there was a lineage of written/oral accounts handed down through the lineage of Israel.

There is no way possible for Moses to know familial lineage for example without some more than likely written record and I suspect that if it was not in writing, then every family was taught their family tree.

The scripture did pre-exist Moses. We know this from Paul:

Galatians 3:8
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

This would be as opposed to, say, 'some stray voice' in his head.

I'd be the last person to deny personal engagements, but we are well advised to "measure" any such experiences and visions to what has transpired prior, for accuracy purposes. Paul did very much have visions, but those visions were strictly affirmed ALSO by "as it is written." The 2 go quite firmly hand in hand.

This morning at our weekly prayer breakfast we were reading from Exodus 19 where God would speak to the Israelites audibly from a cloud. As we were studying I had a thought that I shared. I have not personally heard God's voice audibly, not that I recognized anyway, but part of me thinks it would be incredibly awesome and part of me thinks it would be downright frightening. I suppose it would be both at the same time. Imagine driving down the highway and suddenly I hear the voice of God speaking directly to me. I'd have to stop the car, get out, and prostrate myself right there in total and complete submission.

One man that I listened to his testimony said, that he was driving in FL in his car one day and boom, Jesus appeared in the seat next to him, and began talking with him. That would be a wee bit startling on the highway!

God spoke to me one time. It sounded audible but I really can't say if it was audible or it was just in my head (which is where we hear anyway...)
I admit to not testing that spirit, though the presence of the Lord was heavily upon me, and there was no doubt who it was. I just knew. I did the stupidest thing possible, I questioned the Spirit. Then I got the tone which says, just do it. I was immediately humbled but did obey without another word.

My sheep hear my voice.
Jesus --> Jhn 10:27 KJV said:
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me...

I think you're correct. He makes it His business to ensure that we have a clear understanding of what says to us. He died so that we could have all we need.

The Holy Spirit, given by The Christ, is our Teacher, our Counselor, as well as our 'Paraclete.' see John 14:16-17 (ESV) The word translated as 'Comforter' or 'Counselor' (as found in John 14:16, 26;15:26; and John 16:7) is parakletos. This form of the word properly means 'one called to the side of another.'

Isn't it wonderful (all together full of wonder) how easily grieved -AND- how easily entreated He is!

God has the timing thing down pat.

But the scary and awesome part...That's just about right.

A fatted calf or full grown ox was a high dollar thing for an average family. It's like the expense of a new car in today's world.

To slaughter it and offer it up on a fire, never once even tasting the seasoned meat as it goes from deliciously roasted to ash because you were infatuated with the vision of God....That's exactly what the parents of Sampson did. Scared but delighted all at the same time.

I can only imagine....

It's very wonderful! I felt so bad for questioning Him. He sounded a little terse after I asked, why? what happened, is he ok?...and He said, just pray for your Brother, he needs help right now. I caught the tone and immediately obeyed. Then I thought a lot about Zacariah and how he was made mute. I didn't doubt, but it sure made me think twice about questioning Him. I feel that I may have grieved Him a wee bit to get that tone so I learned something that day. But like you said, He's easily entreated too, so I have been blessed since.
