Theophilus Wrote Luke and Acts

Luke 1:3
With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,

I also decided to write an orderly account. Your most excellent, Theophilus!

Acts 1:1
In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach

In my former book, I Theophilus wrote about everything that Yahshua began to do and to teach.

Luke was a first hand witness, and so there was no need for him to investigate.

Luke 1. KJV

1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

Or:
Most excellent, Theophilus.

4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

Acts 1. KJV

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Luke 8:1
After this, Yahshua traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him,...

Where does the Bible show Luke being a first hand witness?

I didn't remember Luke being a disciple.

Luke was a companion to Paul the Apostle. Colossians 4:14. Luke the beloved physician greets you…

Colossians 4:14
Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings.

2 Timothy 4:11
Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.

Philemon 1:24
And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers.

Luke wrote to Theophilus. Your continual reinterpretations of scripture without basis for doing so are going to keep getting you into trouble with your theology.

How can anyone possibly read the opening statements in Luke and Acts and come away with thinking that Theophilus was the author and not the addressee of the letters?
On the one hand, I really don't know. On the other, as you know, things like this happen when someone "knows" how things should "actually" be interpreted, so that it fits their theological agenda.

Show us where Luke wrote to Theophilus?

It would seem the burden of proof is on you since you are the one making this claim. Show us where Theophilus wrote to Luke. Is English perhaps not your first language?

It's right where Luke says he's writing to Theophilus:

Luk 1:3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, (ESV)

Note that the context is in Luke speaking of others having made accounts also:

Luk 1:1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us,
Luk 1:2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, (ESV)

And Acts:

Act 1:1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, (ESV)

It cannot be other than Luke writing to Theophilus.

Hello CherubRam, I agree that Luke was an eyewitness of some of the things that happened in the early church (following the Lord's Ascension), but why do you believe that he (Luke) was also an eyewitness of some or all of the Lord Jesus' life and ministry, and what evidence led you to this conclusion 🤔

Thank you!

God bless you!!

I was just about to say the same.

Interesting how you change the wording of the text to fit your position. Do you know if that grammatically makes sense in the Greek? Is there a single scholar or theologian you can cite that says the same? Is there a Bible translation out there that has that wording?

Interestingly, the ESV doesn’t have Luke saying he was en eyewitness:

Luk 1:1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us,
Luk 1:2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us,
Luk 1:3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, (ESV)

Luke was with Paul and they met the Apostles.
