"THEOTOKOS. "The Greek term Theotokos means "God-bearer". As a title of Mary, it is used in the Ante-Nicene Fatehrs only by fourth-century writers. In the post-Nicene Latin-speaking church, Theotokos was generally rendered Dei Genitrix, which means "Mother of God" - a term that has been frequently misunderstood in popular usage.
