Thinking about the Garden.

lovely

I don't know how many of you garden, but I have been doing some planning lately...we start seedlings in February here. Anyway, just wondering if anyone would like to share.

1. What do you love about gardening?

2. What are you planting this year, or what was your favorite that you planted in years past?

3. Do you have a good garden tip to offer, that you have heard, or that you have used and works well?

1. I just love the work of making something beautiful, and practical, come about because of my own work and labor mixed with God's increase...so neat. I also like the idea of things bearing fruit of their kinds...I love seed collecting.

2. My favorite to grow is peas, probably because I eat them while I am working in the garden. lol We have never served cooked peas, they never make it to the kitchen! :-D

3. I grew gourds up a trellis a few years back, and tied them up with nylons. lol I think I read this in a book called, "Square Foot Gardening". I checked it at the library, so I am not positive. Anyway, I know it sounds crazy, but it worked! The trellis was more "V" shaped, if you turn that upside down, built from cedars. I put painted paving stones under it, and when the gourds grew to leaves, the children had a hide out...it was so fun to them, and me! :-D I admit, though, since this was my first year growing gourds that I didn't dry them properly and lost every one of them to mildew. Birdhouse gourds, and ladles, alike, I was so disappointed. I haven't tried again, but I will. I am hoping to do a fun Sunflower hide out for my daughter this year, with some climbers for the back wall of the trellis, and for the roof. The sides will be traditional mammoths because we love seeds.

Okay, if you love gardens share. If not, I will visit my own thread and post alone because I am really getting excited about it. :-D

Lovely
A friend of mine introduced me to plants a few of years ago and I really fell in love with them. I go to the 99 cents store and buy little plants and use them in flower pots I make out of broken motors and stuff. I find them to be very relaxing. Now as far as ''Gardening'' , nope. I am not into yard work in the least bit.

Here are some pics of my 99 cents store plants. A couple are in race fuel tanks and 1 is in a blown up engine. :)

I know its goofy and not the ''manly'' thing to do, but my plants bring me great pleasure.....I love animals as well as all these things show Gods Amazing creativity....Actually there are no words to describe Gods magnificance...

Garden veggies are so yummy, but gardening doesn't sound like my idea of fun at all, though I think its an admirable quality in those who are good at it.
I like eating fresh veggies, and I love looking at sunflowers and eating their seeds, but I have noooo green thumb.

Anyways, just call me when supper's ready. :-D

Javier,

Your broken motors and stuff are beautiful...I love it.

It would be nice to have you and destiny both over for dinner so that you can have some fresh veggies. Hey, at least I am not posting alone in this thread. :D

lovely, Theres a little produce market in town that has all the fresh veggies you could want.
They home grow most of their stuff.
I stop in there quite a bit, especially for those zipper queen peas ...those things are so good!
Fresh creamed corn is delicious and so is fresh squash. Ok, that does it...i'm hitting that market tomorrow. :smt118 :o

I love to work out doors... even if it is just mowing the lawn and pulling weeds.

Javier,

What kind of business do you have? My husband raced cars for 20 years. We used to race at Orange county raceway, Irwindale (sp) and palmdale. Just to name a few places.

I have been stuck in a high rise with no balcony for many years. My 'garden' is a 4" by 36" window sill.

When I have lived in places with a yard or patio, it is full of plants.

destiny,

We are so far out its either grow you own, or drive to a bigger town to get good produce. Isn't that odd?

Gabby,

When I was single, I had a balcony that I tried to grow tomatoes on, but other than that just house plants. It was pretty, but not very fruitful...it was what first caused me to fall in love with plants though. I still remember that place, a studio on the second floor in a building from the 1920's. It had a murphy bed, built in closet and drawers, and a bathroom that was extremely retro with original tile...loved it. The railings on the balcony were beautiful decorative iron. $200.00 a month heat included...lol. Radiator heat that was so hot I kept the windows cracked in the winter. :-D I am thinking that herbs will grow on a window sill, Gabby, you can cook with them and they are pretty. You do have limited space, but you strike me as the kind of person to make the most of all that you have, and I notice you are always praiseful to God. You must have the tiniest garden ever...not even "Square Foot Gardening" would work for you. Hmmm.."Window Sill Gardening" by Gabbylittleangel. The Lord bless you.

I am a plant lover' and when I moved here to Georgia from Philly' I had to give my plants away' and I almost cried. Plants that I raised from babies. Croton's and all kinds of palm type plants. I am going to start collecting them' again very soon. That picture up there with the plants in the engine is the bomb' I love it' great idea. I am also a tree lover, got 3 palm trees in my yard. When I see all kinds of plants and trees' I always think of God and how great He is' to create such things out of nothing. Viewing nature has always had a calming affect on me. I love things like looking out to sea or watching a river flow. And I always see God in all this. But anyway folks I love plants. And I am really going to do it up. When the wife and I go to buy them.

Yeah, me too. You are such a blessing, you know that? The Lord's blessings on you and your wife, Lewis.
