Bible Study This Don't Botch, Pray And Watch

Today in my studies I was lead to Colossians. What are you devoted to? Money, family, work, food, God? We all have many things we are devoted to, most of which are obligations. But there are a few things that aren't obligations that all Christians should focus on out of necessity, not the least of which is prayer.

Colossians 4:2 (NIV)

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

So, not only are we supposed to devote ourselves to prayer but we need to be watchful. Why watchful? If you aren't careful you're prayer time can turn into a one sided conversation. And all of us are guilty of handing God a "wish-list". We need to watch out and see to it that our prayer time isn't just about requesting from God. Praise is very much a part of prayer.

Which brings me to being thankful. When you're down and out why do you cry out "why me, why me"? If you're one of the majority that do then you need to reevaluate the reason why you are where you are. God has many reasons for allowing us to be down. Perhaps it's necessary in order to bring about something much better, or it could be that He's asking you to depend on Him more. Perhaps it was the only way He could get your attention! Whatever the reason we are to praise God no matter what the circumstances. Remember, it's temporary!
