US NAVY man here. I was asked to consider becoming a submariner (bubblehead as we called them). But I could not sign aboard a boat that intentionally sinks. LOL
I served with a Quartermaster who got kicked out of the sub fleet for smoking pot. He spoke often about how it was like to be below the waves for 6 months or longer at a time. Not for me... I was claustrophobic enough on the Adams Class destroyer I served aboard.
