This is terrible!

Saw that one a while back. (The bible translation, not the article) Other than the stir it caused then I haven't heard anything more of it until now. From what I'm seeing, or more accurately the lack there of, I don't think it'll really catch on. Pretty much like the JW's edited bible which never really took root except for the JW perhaps. Even Joseph Smith translated his own version for mormonism yet the LDS church doesn't use it.

A sign of the times - meaning confirmation that this is the climax generation of history - it most certainly is

"Woe to those who call good evil, & evil good"

USA folk may not know that this Arch Cant-er-bury-the-truth-at-all-costs, whom many evangelicals call "Ravin' Rotten Rowan", was ordained as an occultic Druid just before his 'enthronement' (= slang for going down the toilet!) as 'head' of the 'Church' of England (international, PLC)

He is Welsh & anyone familiar with Welsh folklore/legends know the ancient occult domination of that principality, whose symbol, on their flag, is the Dragon - (a common Bible picture for that 'ancient serpent', Satan)

He has consistently advocated what the Bible so clearly calls abomination & perversion - as in Romans 1:18-32

Jesus said that this climax generation of multiplying, intensifying 'birthpains' - (of all kinds of natural, social & spiritual disasters, as per Matthew 24) - to bring on the Great Delivery of all who love Jesus - (by instant airlift Rapture rescue of Matt 24:30-31 etc) - inc the spiritual birthpains of persecution, the Great Apostasy & false messiahs/prophets/ teacher/brothers etc who spread it

The Bible says, "The time is coming when men will no longer endure sound teaching, but will instead gather to them teachers who will say whatever they want to hear"

Apostasy - (Greek apo stasis) - means, not only falling away from 'the faith once for all delivered to the saints' (in Man's Maker's Manual, the Bible)

It also means 'to stand against'

Just as the Greek anti means, not only against, but in place of - so that the Antichrist - as Daniel 11 forecast - will set himself up in God's Temple, proclaim himself to be God & demand worship on pain of death - as in Revelation 13 too

Despite all evangelical protests, explaining what the Bible so clearly teaches, the false apostate super-church prophesied in Revelation 17-18 has been decades in the formation

Well, that one got the natives stirred up. Maybe, when I post the article where a Catholic Bishop of high esteem describes Jesus as a homosexual, they will burn the place to the ground.

And, for the record: No. I am not in agreement with either one.

While it is terrible, I did think it was funny.

Peter literally means "rock" so you have to see the humor there.


But that being said. . . . it will be a harsh day for the translators on judgment day:

Revelation 22:19
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
 
The translation is pioneering in its accessibility, and changes the original Greek and Hebrew nomenclature into modern nicknames. St. Peter becomes "Rocky," Mary Magdalene becomes "Maggie," Aaron becomes "Ron," Andronicus becomes "Andy" and Barabbas becomes "Barry."

Sorry, but that's just asinine. This isn't American Idol, why change good old fashioned names to fit in with a secular world? I can't imagine the decision being very well thought out. Rocky? Like was said above, no. And what's wrong with leaving Aaron as it is? It's a name still used today.

John the Baptist is now nicknamed the Dipper? I find this all a little hard to swallow.
 
But you have to admit, even though it is Sunday Morning and we have to put our church faces on, that re-naming John the Baptist to "Dipper" is really kinda cute.

They could have called him Johnny Dipp.
 
One more thing, but when I say this you should understand that I am not in favor of this translation.

But what is the difference between this translation here, and say, the Cotton-Patch Bible? Even The Living Bible is the same type of thing, with a little more honest scholarship involved in the production. (Just, not a whole lot more.)

This liberty taken here with the scriptures is a little more common than you may be aware. Take a trip through the N.T. and look at the times the O.T. was quoted. You will notice that even a learned scholar like the Apostle Paul took some liberty at paraphrasing once in a while. And when was the last time you were speaking and you weren't able to quote a verse exactly, so you you just "gave it your best shot"? It happens all the time, and has been happening since the beginning, and most of the time we don't give it a second thought.

Imh&ho, the big deal here is the extent gone to. A little tongue in cheek is a good and healthy thing. But there comes a time when a line is crossed, and it borders on sacrilege and blasphemy. And if this translation hasn't crossed that line, it is in danger of tripping over it.
 
Is it listed as a translation or a paraphrase? I think that might have some bearing (albeit, one where many will still say it goes against the original intentions of scripture).
