Matthew 6 is the reference where Jesus talks about the good we do in secret that God sees and rewards and I want to encourage my brethren in these choices. Forget the “whatever you do don’t do good works or you’ll be earning your salvation” preaching but read that chapter realizing that God sees those acts of kindness you do for others and rewards them.
I don’t mean more rooms in your mansion in the hereafter. I mean the blessings he spoke of in the covenant with Israel. He promised that if we keep his teachings, there will be blessings in this life too. He promised to bless the production of food and bless your children and the work of your hands. Jesus himself said to seek his righteousness and your needs will be provided for.
Yes this brings up complex questions when individuals do not experience blessings. But that is for each man to ask God what is it he, the man, needs to do. This I have done many times when my blessed life turns difficult. The answer varies. But often the problems were the result of wrong choices I was making. But that’s a different topic.
But be careful not to boast or even tell man of the good (righteous) things you do. The reward is then lost. If man admires you and heaps praises on you, there’s a doubt God does in some matters. Popular in God’s Kingdom is very different than the world of man.
