Titus 3
3
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Now I do not know about you but these verses are some of my absolute favourites from all the Scriptures. They are a beautiful abstract of the whole message of grace. In verse three we are reminded of our position as sinners " foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful".

In verse four we jump to the gospel which continues through to verse six that because God loved us he saved us from our sinful state "according to his mercy" and in verse seven we learn of our hope, "the hope of eternal life". Such simplicity, such truth.

This reminds me of an old song, "Oh, What A Saviour"!! Can the mind of man really comprehend the goodness and love of God toward us? I don't think so.

The Bible says we must believe and confess with our mouths to be saved. Right? Faith without works is dead. Right? What works? If we don't confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and Savior, then Our faith is dead because it didn't save us. One can apply this to all the blessings we receive from God to receive healing, prosperity, and so forth. You see, if we ask for a Job, we must get off our duffs to receive it. It is called corresponding action. After we are saved, faith can grow exceedingly, but it takes action for it to produce. Otherwise, faith is dead.

May God bless, golfjack

Amen. It is a great post.

It is the meat of the word. Once the foundation of salvation has been laid, we build on it, moving foward to that blessed hope...and leaving behind the past.
There is a lot of power in the word "were" in verse three.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Golfjack, why are you singling out only Romans 10:9-10? Are you saying, that "confessing with our mouth" is a work that we can take credit for? That we can sort of "pat ourselves on the back" because it is by faith alone, but by also our doing "our work" when we use our lips?

Have you forgotten Eph. 2:8,9 among others? KJV, "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast".

But, it doesn't end there. 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Imagine that, as new creations in Christ we will walk (or live) in good works;
yet even these God has planned or ordained.
