Why do so many people look down on the traditions of the RCC?

Tradition is just that--tradition and they are like what we call the 'grapevine effect': over time they change to become something else. In other words, what the RCC has deemed a tradition has taken root as a law of God, something they must believe and DO, which has no basis in scripture.

It is a method of control the RCC held over people by teaching them in the middle ages and before, when people were illiterate (only the church could access the written word) and fearful of death, for the life expectancies were very short and infant mortality was extremely high, and disease and plague was a very real occurrence.

That is how indulgences and infant baptisms took a toehold.
