For centuries, I've seen them come, religious folk who've died.
For centuries, I've seen them look, and watched them as they cried,
“I've lived for God all my life; where is heaven's glory?â€
And those who say quite hopefully, “So this is Purgatory?â€
“What trick is this?†Their eyes grow wide. “God's commands I've kept!â€
“How came I here? The Witness asked, “I thought the dead just slept?â€

"With the gospel of old Joseph Smith, I backpacked everywhere;
and when I died I still wore my Mormon underwear!"
“But I was baptized as a babe!†a woman shrilly said.
“My parents paid for water to be poured upon my head!â€

(The unbelieving atheist's surprise he could not hide.
“I always thought I'd disappear the moment that I died!â€)

“How can this be?†A church-goer cried. “I've always done my best!
And when I failed, I hung my head and every sin confessed!â€

"For Lent I fasted; prayed for the dead; I fingered rosary beads!
My trust was in the Virgin to supply all of my needs."
"Well, I spoke in tongues, saw folks get healed;
and felt the spirit fill me every time I kneeled!"
Every day I hear these claims; I've cried some out as well.
As time went on, I learned just why we've ended up in Hell.

We'd heard of Christ -- he died for sin, according to St. Paul,
but let our pride convince us that he didn't do it all.

“Let us help you save us, God! We want to do our part.
The death of Christ at Calvary was only just the start.

“We know Paul said that faith alone in Jesus Christ doth save,
but keeping laws and doing works is what our pride doth crave.â€

To God's ministry with Israel we looked to find the way,
We'd do what Christ told Israel and do those works each day.

To trust in Christ was not enough, God surely wanted more.
We did good deeds; we went to church; gave money to the poor.

We never saw the great good news God gave to us through Paul,
that “Christ died for the ungodly;†Behold, he did it all.

Forever we are doomed in Hell; our earthly life is through,
But you can trust in Christ ALONE, and Heaven waits for you.

Believe in Christ – he died for you -- and be saved by God's grace;
and rejoice for eternity as you behold his lovely face!

COOL....

I read this thread because I am posting things that seem important to me.
One thing is that the christians seem to have confused Jesus with the Ideal of Love, rather than the ideal of Truth.

Jesus said "I am the Truth, and the way, and the life"...
But people replace that concept without anyone calling them on it.

The Bible says that th Torah (The Law) and the Prophets sum up the one message simply in saying Love god and love eachother.
So, the Old Testament covenant was to do that commandment.

Clearly, Jesus did not come to repeat the message nor to do away with it, but he did inform us that he personified and idealized Truth.

Well, cupid dave, since God is love and Jesus is God's Son with all His Father's characteristics, Jesus is love also, right? And He certainly is Truth personified as well. Love of the Truth then is love of God and Jesus, right?

But I get your point. Just have to remember, as do I, that not everyone has received the love of the Truth. (1 Thes 2:10) I am one with you in this, to post the truth is mandatory for those who love it. And God alone knows who the truth will touch and cause them to receive the love of it. We know the truth because the Spirit leads us into it. So I guess we need to pray for those who post what we know is not the truth so that they might receive the Holy Spirit and the love of the truth, huh? Hadn't thought of that until right now! Thanks for waking me up to the need, brother dave!
