I posted this poll as a result of a conversation that I have recently had with co-workers of mine.

If you think there is good in the Tv Programs, let me know what it is.
If you don't think there is any good in the Tv Programs, tell me why.
Please always explain your answer.... :)

TV is a hallucinogen for the hive minded masses of mediocricy.....

I vote "bad" in context to spiritual apathy....

depends on the channel.

Though, as a rule, I try not to watch too much TV--always something more productive I could be doing.

I cant stand watching TV it drives me crazy, especialy now when all it is reality shows and soaps. People always end up swearing and end up showing more of their body that you rather not see!

i cant wait till i'm old enougth so i dont have to have a tv no more.

There is good in TV, although I think most of us agree that too much is always bad no matter what you are watching. My daughter watches Mr. Rogers and Cyber Chase on PBS. Watching these shows with my wife during the day, she has learned many things from how things are made to math and geometry concepts. Saying that I will add that there is not much good tv for adult viewers.

Most tv programs are TRASH anymore. Thankfully, I've got my kids hooked on Full House and The Cosby Show that they play on Nick at Nite. They need more programs like that that actually TEACH our youth life lessons.

The only thing I watch on tv regularly is ER. Although, they play so many repeats that I hardly watch it anymore. I also like a good Lifetime movie.

TAKE A STAND
AND
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

It is a sad situation indeed!

TV had become the tool of the devil. If you are watching some show that you think is halfways decent, then comes on the commercial and IT is so vulgar and vile you have to turn IT off! commercials can't even be trusted now-a-day! And that show fear factor! OH MY GOD! HOW IN THE WORLD is that thing still on the air? I can't believe it is getting all that many good ratings that it is able to last so long on the air! That show is VULGAR TO THE MAX! Who in their right mind wants to watch people laying in a bed of disgusting bugs and then go onto eating bugs, worms and eyeballs and all kind of things that are vile and gross that only a demon devil would eat? :o SICK! TOTALLY SICK MINDED!

I watch as little of the tv as I possible can. Even the commercials are forcing you to see the things they do on that vulgar sick show Fear factor!

Call me a prude, I hate vulgarity and perverted promiscuous sex that is constantly being thrown at us on tv! And how do we get away from it if they insist on showing it in the commercials on stations that are showing a program that isn't so bad. The commercials are attacking us!

Lord have mercy!

I'll have no problem giving up the TV if it is going to throw that garbage before my eyes!

I've been listening to radio more than watching the TV. And even some radio is too much. Some Christians talk shows are a bit too much, I must say. We do need to be careful of what pollutants the media is subjecting us to! Too much garbage can make a person snap! No wonder the news if full of weird news!

TV and HOLLYWOOD has become the tool of the devil!

WE ALL NEED TO SPEAK UP AND CALL THE STATIONS AND SPONSORS AND COMPLAIN TO THEM! And tell them to STOP WITH THE VULGARITY and bring back decent TV viewing. If we don't speak up they will have no reason to stop doing the trashy things they are doing.

SPEAK UP AND CALL THE STATIONS! Call the SPONSORS and tell them you will not buy their product if they continue to sponsor trash on the TV.

The more calls they get the more our voices will be heard and they will have to do something about it.

The silent will not get anything. The squeaky wheel gets oiled!

SPEAK UP! Call your TV stations everyday about every program and commercials you disagree with! And tell your friends to do the same!

SPEAKING of commercials.....

Has anyone seen the Aspercream commercial? It came on the other day and I was SHOCKED. Thankfully my kids weren't in the room because a lot of times, if a commercial has a jingle, they quickly learn it and sing it.

Its a topical cream "For the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with arthritis, simple backache, strains and sprains. "

Now about their commercial... Its a typical commercial for such creams of this type usually showing someone rubbing some on their back and red marks radiating from the spot where its being rubbed on. Then out of nowhere you see the tube of Aspercream and someone says "You bet your sweet aspercream". That is pronounced ASS-PER-CREAM. And they really drag it out like "assssssssssspercream!".

They say it several times throughout the commercial. :o

Television promotes some very evil practices.

1. Sex outside of marriage and homosexuality

2. It often portrays criminals as "cool". Thieves, drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, hit men. etc.

3. It winks at and condones the lifestyles of those in the entertainment industry as "fun loving free spirits" instead of sinners in need of repenance.

Anyone have any good examples of this to share?

I don't watch too many shows these days. Every time I find a good plot, they have to ruin it by having everyone and their uncle sleep with each other. So, you really have to be careful about what's out there. That show...what's it called, the news...it's on every station. There's always something interesting on there...true or not.

I only watch a few things on tv..

News.
simpsons.
certain movies tha tim to cheap to rent.
discovery/history channel..

and occasionaly shows like "amazing videos caught on tape"

I don't watch a great deal of TV, although I it is on a good deal, and I may find myself listening to it while doing something else. I think there is good in TV, but you have to work increasingly harder to find it.

I dislike "reality" shows, I like some afternoon talkshows. Dr. Phil is pretty good. I watch a little news most days.

But really, I would say there is not much good during primetime.

TV...

It is good to hear everyone's opinion on this subject. Relic you have a good point there, we shouldn't cower behind the couch while the T.V. keeps spreading vile thoughts and ideals, we should stand up and DO SOMETHING. I have been trying to get this point across to my co-workers, but I am afraid it is not sinking in. All they hear is that I don't have a T.V., so I am now some kind of depraved individual... As if T.V. defined who and what I am  .

Then these same co-workers point out that I have a computer, several actually, and that they are connected to the internet. Their point is that the same thing I believe is filthy on the t.v. is on the internet. They don't see the fact that at least with filters and selective wandering I am not inviting trash into my hard drive the way that trash is being fostered into the atmosphere through t.v.

Now, not all t.v. programs are bad, but sometimes wading through the trashy commercials to watch those good programs is not worth my time, and as if that isn't bad enough, advertisements are now being made with in the program itself... When my nephiews come to visit, they bring their Bob the Builder, and Franklin, and Transformer dvds, and we watch them together. As long as the morals are Biblically sound there is no reason in my mind that they cannot watch it, however, their mother is saddened that she now has to screen PBS and Noggin so that her children are not exposed to the political campaign of liberalists and homosexuals.

AHhh for the times when Andy Griffith and My Friend Flicka reigned... Or Jack Benny and The Lone Ranger. At least then moms were not afraid that something detrimental to their children's belief system would be blasted out at them through the T.V.

Just my 2 Cents.
No one has to agree with me, but I can already tell that there are those here who have the same feelings that I do when confronted with today's media and programs on the Television sets around the world.

"after the first month i didn't even miss T.V." this is so true.

i don't own a TV and haven't ever since it caught fire right before finals week 3 years ago. litteraly, smoke and light started spraying out the top of it. talk about signs... i did really well on those finals next week too.

here is why using a computer is different from watching a tv:
  • we chose the content we are exposed to and also the medium that content is delivered with. instead of a basic 4-10 channels, or cable with 30-50 channels, or super cable with 50-200 channels, or super super cable with 200+ channels, we chose from BILLIONS of channels. and there is greater variety in their delivery.[/*:m:25394]
  • with the exception of public access, tv has little, if any, raw human element to it. it is a packaged form of advertising, designed to keep you hooked and coming back for more, to sell you on ideas and ways of thinking, and to get money from you through effective advertising. people who run websites really don't care if you ever come back, or if you even visit at all. this difference radicaly changes the content we will be exposed to.[/*:m:25394]
  • computers with internet access can enrich a mind far beyond that of television. just about anything printed before 1923 is treated as "public domain" material and the more popular books can be found available free for download at gutenberg.org, the interents largest and longest running provider of etexts. that's just one example of what is trully an endless list of self-education potential. another would be that nifty site biblegateway.net with so many different bibles in even more languages. [/*:m:25394]
  • computers allow you to "fight back" against television. the media barons of today control television content in ways which are almost too frightening to comprehend. you can find every side of any issue on the internet and this can lead to education about events which would NEVER happen from just watching the evening news. also, instead of watching television shows and being captivated by visualy stimulating comercials(despite using the mute button), you can download the show for free and most times avoid comercials. this also allows you to watch them at your convenience(i'm not a fan of Ti VO).[/*:m:25394]
  • lastly, televisions just take up additional space. OF COURSE i'm going to have a computer... but if i have to chose between an "entertainment center" and my pool table, i pick my pool table, EVERY time. yeah i know flatscreen-plasma-HD-hooha. still, that's wall space i could hang a nice poster.[/*:m:25394]

i saw a 6700 dollar 50+ inch HD screen onsale at overstock for 2200 the other day. i don't need that, and not because of the price. because really, who needs a damn television? everything , EVERYTHING, that people might want to watch on a t.v. is already available on the internet.

you call it a "liberalist" campaign.

it is just an equal rights movement.

womens rights, unsuported vy the bible and many christians, was a "liberalist" campaign

african american rights, unsuported by the bible, and by many christians, was a "liberalist" campaign

you would think that the religion that supposedly preaches love and acceptance, would actually do those things.

.

Beware of the RELIGION of HUMANISM!

Beware of the Subliminal that is diverting the mind within the media of entertainment.

Those subtle forms of entertainment and that background noise is not so innocent. It is a form of brainwashing you into passivity and a tactic for the destruction of your morals and ethics. HUMANISM, It's how they try to destroy a religious people, by distracting and perverting their minds.

What's the best way to destroy a people with strong moral character and a strong religion? DISTRACTION! Satans best and most handy tool of the his trade! The humanists want you to be pacified and not active!

It is a subliminally inflicted force they use to gain strength of their own. It sneaks up on society and destroys it's morals slowly but surely and they are doing it through slowly but surely infiltrating the government, the school systems and the media!

And believe it! They are keeping track of how well they are doing! I'd say they are about half way done with their tactics to destroy society.
IT ONLY TAKE ONE GENERATION AT A TIME! And they are halfways there!
And if people don't wake up out of their stupor of fantasy they will find themselves not knowing what hit them!

People are so caught up in their fantasies they don't have a voice for the preservation of a decent moral society anymore. The HUMANISTS have succeeded in subliminally brainwashed them into believing the LIE that anything goes. And their voices have been silenced.

Tell it to them nicely and they laugh at you.
Tell it to them with a loud voice and they still laugh at you.

What a shame, these people haven't a clue. :crying:

WAKE UP AMERICA! WAKE UP!!!!

DO SOMETHING!
GET OFF THE BUT'S (stop with the excuses; but this and but that)
DO SOMETHING!

MAKE THAT PHONE CALL! PETITION AND GET BUSY SERVING SOCIETY
INSTEAD OF JUST FANTASIZING ABOUT HOW GREAT THAT MOVIE WAS OR THAT MUSIC OR THAT GAME OR THAT SHOW OR THAT FOOD! DO SOMETHING!

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

:crying:

Hear the warning signs!
THIS IS SERIOUS and not to be taken lightly!
Hear the call to action!
Get involved!
Fight the Good Fight!

Don't let them silence Godly people!

Take a stand and be PRO-ACTIVE!

When will people wake up? WHEN!
GOD! It only takes the use of your phone
Instead of being on the phone constantly to friends talking about nonsense, Make those phone calls to those who will participate and those who can make a difference! Call those TV Stations and the government to take action against the destruction of ethics and morals in our society.

Tell them to remove the garbage minded behavior and language from TV. or you will not support them by watching their shows or purchasing thier products!

But this, but that, yeah but, but but but....
How many times must it be stressed before people get off of their but's?

Where are the Christians soldiers?
Too much Silence is a sin!

The homosexual agenda is not "just an equal rights movement". This is a movement to founder the family unit of the world. An equal rights movement does not target children's minds, seeking to subvert them from the authority of their parents.

Contrary to the popular belief of today, women are treated with respect in the Scriptures. Mary Wolstoncroft's "Vindication of the Rights of Women" was not the starting point of the women's rights campaign. Furthermore, abolitionists found their enlightenment in the Bible, claiming that all mankind had the right to live free.

ohh i get it..

so your saying that when we became a multicultural accepting society, we didnt tell kids to do it too right?

you mean al teh money spent on teachign kids that everyone is equal and fai, doesnt happen?

all those posters aimed to little kids with a white kid, black kid, and chineese kid all holding hands?

what abotu how every single word problem was like "jose and shalita were out playing and had 5 apples..."

Destroy what family unit? if we let gays and lesbians marry, we would have more couples raising kids than we would have single ppl

TV is interesting. You can see a lot of culture in it. It also leads to the question "Is TV a reflection of society or does it shape it."

For example, each new controversial issue makes its way into a TV show. If it is a social issue, it is a comedy. If it is a polticial issue, it is on a cop/lawyer/medical type of drama.

The social issue is interesting. Early blacks in TV were all comedies. Jeffersons. What's Happening. Fat Albert. Cosbys. Then as people get comfortable, they get more serious roles.

Same for gays in TV. They started out in comedy roles like Ellen, Roseanne, Will & Grace. But they are starting to appear in more serious rolls.

So I don't see TV as bad itself, though there are some shows that do insult the intellect (FOX.. I am looking in your direction.) So if you want to see culture shaping, TV is a good place to see it.
