Hello everyone. As you can tell from the thread title, I'm not a Christian. So why am I here? I post at the Richard Dawkins forum and I've been impressed by the increasing number of Christians joining over there. It adds interest and variety to the boards, so I thought I'd try the same thing in reverse.

I think it's good to have to discussion with people of very different views. It keeps your mind working and sometimes gives you a better understanding of why you believe what you do.

I'm absolutely not here to have a go at anyone and I appreciate that the rules don't allow me to promote my own (lack of) beliefs. That said, if anyone thinks discussion would be fun, I'd enjoy that too.

We do appreciate that you're reading each forum rules before entering, this will avoid confusion. Some forums are for christians only, and enforced, and there's forums for non-christian believers as well as you search for truth. We have many forums to peak your interest.....so have fun.

We're thankful that you've acknowledged that you are not here to have a go at anyone, and we do appreciate your kindness, and spoken word. We do ask that respect is given to all members, and if there needs to be a cooling off period until conversations simmer down to where there's respect among whoever you're having a topic discussion with....don't hesitate to do so.

We do stress that there are those who come seeking guidence/love/encouragement, even sometimes public confessions from those broken from sin. You never know that this place may be a broken persons last stop before suicide. So please take these post seriously/lovingly, showing them mercy, and compassion in kind regard for their brokeness.

We're glad you're here Bob, have a great time. You seem to know the rules, though I do have to elaborate. But we look forward to getting to know you on the boards.....enjoy! :wave

Thanks for your welcome Carol. No worries on that score. I come to online discussions as a way to relax but I realise some people have a much more serious purpose. I wouldn't even consider responding to the kind of post you're describing.

I'd quite like to get cleared to post in the science section if that's possible though.

Hmm... In our collective defence, many Christians get on fine and are treated with respect. I think it depends on the attitude people come in with. If you're perceived as witnessing, or as thinking you've got a knockdown argument that nobody's heard before, then yes, vitriol will follow. And if you want to argue for creationism you'll need to really know your stuff. You have to bear in mind that several people every week turn up in the hope of saving the atheists, or wanting to be banned as a badge of honour. If you ever still look at the site, look up Jerome's survival guide for theists.

Anyway, I don't know the specifics of what happened with you so I can't really comment. RDF is what diplomats call a full and frank exchange of views, which isn't to everyone's taste.
