Unforgivable Sin

Is there any sin that can't be forgiven....

Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,†and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.†23 And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. 27 But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.

28 Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sinâ€â€” 30 for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.â€

MY COMMENTS: Let us read the full context of this, starting with Matthew:

From Matt. 12:31-32, NIV: "And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone whospeaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."

Here we read the first account of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and that the Lord specifically says it will not be forgiven either in THIS AGE or in THE AGE TO COME.

So now we know it is not an "unforgivable sin."
"THIS AGE" is the one Jesus was living in then, and it is the same age we are living in. It ends at the end of the Tribulation.

"THE AGE TO COME" is the Millennial Kingdom on the earth, lasting for a one thousand years.

Those Israelites who blasphemed the Holy Spirit will not be resurrected to be in the KIngdom.
They will be resurrected to be judged by Christ on His Great White Throne, after the millennium.

True, the account is repeated in Mark 3:28-29, and says, "Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven: he is guilty of an eternal sin." NIV. But, since the true teaching was given by our Lord in Matt. 12:32, there appears to be a convlict. It can be resolved by studying a correct literal translation, such as Young's, which I will quote:

Mark 3:28 "Verily, I say to you, that all the sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and evil speakings with which they might speak evil, but whoever may speak evil in regard to the Holy Spirit hath not forgiveness---to the age, but is in danger of age-during judgment." YLT.

And doesn't this make sense, for Jesus is the "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world"
(John 1:29); 2 Cor. 5:19 "...that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them."
There are others, and we know that Christ's sacrifice on the cross has taken away all the sins of the whole world. Men will be judged for their deeds, that is ture.

This verse describes the blasphemy:22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,†and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.â€

It occurred then as it still does in some churches today when people explain the work of the Holy Spirit, whether it be the casting out of demons or the speaking in tongues, as a work of Satan.Needless to say,the ministers who practice this blasphemy either refuse to read these verses in their churches or they jump over verse 22 and teach that the blasphemy Jesus spoke of is something totally different especially if they teach the "once saved always saved" theory to their congregations.

So if you call good evil...that's unforgivable. Hmm...I need to do some reading

My comment on this is a little more narrower than DrFrank's. I believe it was specifically for that time and targeted at the work Jesus Himself did while flesh and blood here on Earth. I believe no believer after Jesus' ascension is able to commit this sin.

This has been covered in some detail here:

I feel it is dangerous, but if anyone still wants to believe they can commit this sin, that's their prerogative. :yes

I feel I have offended the lord beyond forgiveness because I have attempted to speak in tongues but I did so in fleshly tongues not in real. I know there is a true gift of tongues and baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues, but I got mislead by an internet article that said , how to speak in tongues that told that by faith receive the gift and to start talking . open your mouth and move the lips,,,, which is incorrect, The fear inside me is eating me away . Can this be forgiven?

Attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to the Devil is one way, another is wilfull sinning...

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Choosing the way of sin.

You did not commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Blasphemy of the Spirit is rejecting the testimony of the Holy Spirit that goes out into the world to convict people regarding the gospel. That testimony goes forth in spoken words, or signs and miracles. The Pharisees saw the testimony of God about Christ in the miracles he was doing but rejected that testimony. There is no forgiveness available for someone who rejects the testimony God gives about the forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ.

Jethro Bodine do you believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues? So the unforgivable sin has nothing to do with speaking in tongues in the flesh?

I've only witnessed something that I would consider "Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit" once in my lifetime and it wasn't from an innocent who trusted the words of a man about how to get a Good Gift from God.

Ask yourself, If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more does your Heavenly Father know how to give the Holy Spirit to them who ask?

There is nothing that can convince me that your attempt to receive what your Father in Heaven has promised could be twisted into Him allowing something like that happening. He knows how to work both the will and the way into each of us, keep asking, knowing that there is an answer ready to be given, keep knocking and know that it shall be opened, seek with the sure knowledge that what you seek shall be found.

Peter spoke of this in the 2nd chapter of Acts saying that this gift, this promise, is made: "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

Best Answer!!!! However I believe as someone that never makes Jesus lord is saved anyway. I also believe one can walk away after knowing the truth.

Hebrews also mention this sin............

to have known the truth, known the power of the holy Spirit and to discount it all "AFTER KNOWING" and walking away counting the blood covenant where you were sealed with an unholy Thing Heb (6, 10)

Jesus warning was to get in a position to call the Holy Spirit unclean or saying the Holy Spirit is evil or did evil (Devils Kingdom) as opposed to good (God's Kingdom) The Kingdoms are not divided.

This was often accomplished by going back to Judaism after having fellowship with the Holy Spirit being sealed until the day of redemption. This is why John said if you see a brother sin a sin unto death don't pray for it, then right after John warned to stay away from Idols that would draw you away from the Holy Spirit and the redemptive work of the Blood.

So, I would be very careful about saying God made me sick, or God took my loved one, because God does things on this planet through the precious Holy Spirit which is not evil.

Mike.

I don't understand. What about an atheist that rejects the testimony. No forgiveness for an atheist? Say the atheist rejects the testimony, but a few years later he's ready to give his life to Christ. Will Christ forgive him?

The position is that they rejected unto death. Man will die at some point, then judgment

OHH ok, rejecting unto death is different. Thanks.

See Psalms 19:13 for the ending of ones maturity. And James 1:15 backs this up.

So no to your tongues talking. (see 1 John 5:16 & 17)
Sincere folks do not make a habit of sin, but grow & MATURE in the opposite direction.;)

We don't turn our backs to our children cause they do dumb stuff...Our heavenly Father has one great sense of humor... just look around :) Spoken by one who grew up in Pentecost.. those teaching such shouldn't be, but those seeking the Lord and or His gifts... He looks on the heart

rejecting Jesus and never being saved is the unforgivable sin.. when one takes that last breath and passes on to eternity .there is no 2 nd chance,
