United States is (was?) a New Covenant Nation

Many people see politics as a struggle between good and evil. While there will always be a struggle between good and evil while man lives in his sinful flesh the political struggle is much more complex. The history of a nation's governance can be categorized as being either patterned after God's Old Covenant or his New Covenant.

The Old Covenant is where God makes an agreement with his believers where God imposes rules on his followers while retaining all the rights as God as a deity. Notice that God does not place himself under his own rules, yet!

But in the New Covenant God becomes man as Jesus Christ thereby God placed himself under his own rules. Not only is God living under his own rules but he also extends all the rights of being a child of God to his believers as well (hint: through the indwelling Holy Spirit).

John 1:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

The Old Covenant is about placing people under rules while those who establish and determine compliance of those rules, the governing hierarchy, enjoy the God like privilege of mediating out punishment for infractions that exempt themselves. Whereas the New Covenant is about placing everyone under the same rules, including the governing hierarchy, whereby everyone enjoys the same rights equally.

Today we have a nation like the United Stares that establishes a rule of law that forces those in government to be placed under the same rules as everyone else while also granting rights to everyone to prove their own compliance in the face of governmental prosecution.

But sadly many politicians today want the Old Covenant governance where politicians can impose rules that exempt themselves and act like God whereby they retain all the rights to determine rules and compliance and live like a deity (hint: The Vicar of Christ) complete with lavish wealth and power.

God sent his very own son Jesus Christ -God become man- to create a New Covenant with man Jeremiah 31:31-34 whereby God will write his laws into our minds and on our hearts so that both God and man will be placed under the same rule of law equally. Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and rest assured that you'll be granted the right to become a child of God which will grant you eternal life with God the Father, God the son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit.

God Bless

Jeremiah 31:31-34 New International Version (NIV)
31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

The United States is not a "Christian " nation or a theocracy, but the principles embedded in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence have their roots in the Bible. Those who came on the Mayflower were certainly Christians.

The American colonies, with the exception of the Plymouth Puritans who believed they alone were saved and needed to get away from all those sinners, were founded for the express purpose of MAKING MONEY.

When the colonists (or about a third of them) decided to break free from the rule of the King of England, they did so because their ability to do business was being stifled by the British crown and parliament. It was an economic decision.

The united States of America was founded by rebellion against the government which was, according to Romans 13:1, instituted by God. And "rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft" according to 1 Sam 15:23 (KJV)

So the notion that the USA was founded as a "Christian country" is a fairy tale since two of the foundation stones of the USA are rebellion and Mammon and there was never a time when each and every American was a Christian.

The Church is the manifest presence of the Kingdom of God in the world. (At least, it's supposed to be.) There is no such thing as a "Christian" country which has a government that makes its laws by a process of compromise. Right and wrong, good and evil, are not subject to compromise and there can be no fellowship of darkness and light. That is the kind of government that "we the people" established with our very excellent constitution and we have been compromising our way down to hell ever since. It is not possible for the Kingdom to be "of God" and "of man" at the same time. Someone once said that we cannot serve both God and Mammon. Mammon has become the god of the USA. That was the seed which was planted in the colonies which were established as commercial enterprises designed to make rich men even richer. Today, that seed is bearing much fruit.
