United States is (was?) a New Covenant Nation
Many people see politics as a struggle between good and evil. While there will always be a struggle between good and evil while man lives in his sinful flesh the political struggle is much more complex. The history of a nation's governance can be categorized as being either patterned after God's Old Covenant or his New Covenant.
The Old Covenant is where God makes an agreement with his believers where God imposes rules on his followers while retaining all the rights as God as a deity. Notice that God does not place himself under his own rules, yet!
But in the New Covenant God becomes man as Jesus Christ thereby God placed himself under his own rules. Not only is God living under his own rules but he also extends all the rights of being a child of God to his believers as well (hint: through the indwelling Holy Spirit).
John 1:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
The Old Covenant is about placing people under rules while those who establish and determine compliance of those rules, the governing hierarchy, enjoy the God like privilege of mediating out punishment for infractions that exempt themselves. Whereas the New Covenant is about placing everyone under the same rules, including the governing hierarchy, whereby everyone enjoys the same rights equally.
Today we have a nation like the United Stares that establishes a rule of law that forces those in government to be placed under the same rules as everyone else while also granting rights to everyone to prove their own compliance in the face of governmental prosecution.
But sadly many politicians today want the Old Covenant governance where politicians can impose rules that exempt themselves and act like God whereby they retain all the rights to determine rules and compliance and live like a deity (hint: The Vicar of Christ) complete with lavish wealth and power.
God sent his very own son Jesus Christ -God become man- to create a New Covenant with man Jeremiah 31:31-34 whereby God will write his laws into our minds and on our hearts so that both God and man will be placed under the same rule of law equally. Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and rest assured that you'll be granted the right to become a child of God which will grant you eternal life with God the Father, God the son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit.
God Bless
Jeremiah 31:31-34 New International Version (NIV)
31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
