Unseen and Dammed

When Jesus Christ cast out a demon from a demon possessed person in Mark 5: 1-20 he asked the demon for his name. The demon replied that they were all called Legion for they were many. Imagine that Jesus Christ – who is God become man and God the Father's very own son – didn't know their names. This fact highlights the reality that all those dammed are unknown to God and can only find an identity in a group like in a Legion.

Today we see this same fact borne out in groups of people who are unsaved and dammed searching and finding an identity in groups. Politics is especially ripe with individuals who crave an identity in groups which is called 'identity politics'. People seek an identity in groups such as politics, economics, education, social clubs, business, etc. for the same reason that all the demons called themselves Legion, for they were all dammed by their sin and unseen by God.

Christians who are redeemed by the forgiveness offered by Jesus Christ are given an unique identity with God that culminates with God giving each person in heaven their very own name on a white stone that only the person and God will know. This stone represents God seeing each believer individually by a unique name rather than all the unsaved having to hide under one name as a group.

People often wonder why all men and women have to approach God and ask for his forgiveness rather than God just granting forgiveness carte blanche. God forgives each person individually so both man and God can finally see each other as individuals. The unsaved already know they are hidden from God's view which is what gives them the boldness to continue in their sin.

Consider that God's covenant with man ( both Old and New ) is a way in which God could see his followers as individuals even as they are still sinful since those under the covenant would eventually have their sins forgiven by God's son Jesus Christ once Jesus had all of their sins placed upon him on the cross.

If you are struggling to find an identity in some group then simply turn to Jesus Christ and believe in his death and resurrection and the forgiveness that you will gain will 'open your eyes', not to your own sin, but to the outstretched arms of Jesus Christ who can finally see the person calling out his name asking for forgiveness amongst the Legion of the Dammed.

God Bless

Very interesting post my friend. I had never thought of your presentation that way before. I especially liked your invitation at the end. Well done.

Never thought Jesus didnt' know .Thought He was making it/them declare

I wondered about that statement. I agree with you Reba, There was a reason that He asked their name other than He didn't know it. Omniscience was not something that Jesus left off in becoming earth bound, only when He would come back, IMO.

That is an interesting question sister, one that I have pondered before. I think that either the Lord, perhaps didn't know it, because as he grew he had more things revealed to Him at the proper times and seasons (something which may or may not be true, and if so, may have something to do with Him being fully man, and doing His walk with honor and integrity...)...or it may be something else altogether and there was a reason for Him asking them what He did.. They sure knew who He was.

As for the OP...yes, good post brother. We all want and seek identity, and it is indeed found in Jesus Christ. We don't really know what all we lost in the fall...but our identity is clearly part of it, to a large extent. This is what our relationship with the Lord, and walking in the Spirit is all about. Regaining our identity in the Lord.

Good post. As individuals we each stand before God having a one on one personal relationship with Christ like no others as we each come to Christ in our own special way. It's not a group, but that of one having their own identity with Christ.

On a side note of interest, a legion of demons consist of 6000 or more demons that possessed this man. Matthew 26:53 Jesus talks about God could give him more than twelve legions of angels, being approximately 72000 or more in just 72000 and if you break it down and do the math a legion comes out to be 6000. 72000 divided by 12 equals 6000. Side note in my Bible says 12 legion equals 72000. Could you imagine that many demons being inside one person. No wonder he had the strength to break any chain that was used to bind him.

That is quite mind blowing for_his_glory!

Just cannot imagine that many demons trapped inside one poor soul, imagine the torment that man must of gone through. Horrifying to say the least.
