Unseen and Dammed
When Jesus Christ cast out a demon from a demon possessed person in Mark 5: 1-20 he asked the demon for his name. The demon replied that they were all called Legion for they were many. Imagine that Jesus Christ – who is God become man and God the Father's very own son – didn't know their names. This fact highlights the reality that all those dammed are unknown to God and can only find an identity in a group like in a Legion.
Today we see this same fact borne out in groups of people who are unsaved and dammed searching and finding an identity in groups. Politics is especially ripe with individuals who crave an identity in groups which is called 'identity politics'. People seek an identity in groups such as politics, economics, education, social clubs, business, etc. for the same reason that all the demons called themselves Legion, for they were all dammed by their sin and unseen by God.
Christians who are redeemed by the forgiveness offered by Jesus Christ are given an unique identity with God that culminates with God giving each person in heaven their very own name on a white stone that only the person and God will know. This stone represents God seeing each believer individually by a unique name rather than all the unsaved having to hide under one name as a group.
People often wonder why all men and women have to approach God and ask for his forgiveness rather than God just granting forgiveness carte blanche. God forgives each person individually so both man and God can finally see each other as individuals. The unsaved already know they are hidden from God's view which is what gives them the boldness to continue in their sin.
Consider that God's covenant with man ( both Old and New ) is a way in which God could see his followers as individuals even as they are still sinful since those under the covenant would eventually have their sins forgiven by God's son Jesus Christ once Jesus had all of their sins placed upon him on the cross.
If you are struggling to find an identity in some group then simply turn to Jesus Christ and believe in his death and resurrection and the forgiveness that you will gain will 'open your eyes', not to your own sin, but to the outstretched arms of Jesus Christ who can finally see the person calling out his name asking for forgiveness amongst the Legion of the Dammed.
God Bless
