What do you think of when I say, “rock?†Do you think of the music created from the early 1950’s through present day? Do you think of those hard, gray things that made such good pets when you were only knee-high? What about that beautiful clear stone gracing the fingers of most engaged women everywhere?
When I think of a rock, I think of the wise man in Matthew 7 who placed the foundations of his house in the rock. I grew up in a mobile home and now the foundation of my house is in the rocks. And when a storm comes, let me tell you that my house doesn’t shake and rattle like that old mobile home used too.
My faith is built in the Rock, too. Just a different type of rock. This Rock is strong and silent and is with me wherever I am. This Rock is with me at work, at home, at play, at church, in my brightest moments and in my darkest days. This Rock is firmly in place in my heart and mind. And since this Rock is with me, I am unshakable!
This Rock is… you guessed it!... Jesus Christ! When He is with me, I know that the storms not only may come, but WILL come, and He will hold my mind and my heart steady. The gales will blow! The rains will drive down! The clouds will cover the sunshine so densely that I might forget that the sun ever existed! But Jesus will keep me strong.
I wasn’t always like this, but I dug deep inside myself and brought all of my fears and doubt the Him. Today I remember one small simple verse:
Psalm 62:6.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
