We were late for church today because our tiny dogs pointed out a parrot in our yard. It is very tame and gentle, very loving and lowers its head to have me pet the back of its neck, even gently lifting my finger with it bill to pet it. I love the bird and I have never been a lover of indoor birds. We checked the papers and found no advertisment for a lost bird. Since they are costly I would have expected someone to advertise. I plan to contact vets but don't know where to go from here. They are a big job and a life time responsibility. Our dogs are beside themselves. Now what do we do now?

Check Craig's list to see if anyone has posted anything and maybe put flyers up. Otherwise I'm not sure what to do. Maybe notify the police so they have a record so someone can't just come in and claim its their bird.

I'd call animal control and see if they know anything about a lost bird. Worth a try, anyway.

Sounds as if you really like it. Spread the word that you found a parrot... leave some details out so an owner can truly identify the bird as their own (you're right, they are valuable and I wouldn't put it past someone to claim the bird as their own just to sell the thing)... and if no one comes to claim it... you've got the bird.

I did advertise on Craig's list---"found pet bird". Someone e-mailed the owner who called me within the hour. She was so excited to get him back! She says he rules the house. He orders the rotweiller to go lie down and the dog obeys the bird!. I was glad to reunite them. He ran up her arm and gave her a kiss on the lips. He is an African Gray Parrot, which is very expensive, one of the most intelligent, and fairly rare in comparison to some others in the parrot family. He was also very messy and managed to poop on me. We are bird watchers but I usually prefer them outside for those reasons. But if I ever had a bird, that would be the one.
