My father in law became sick last Sunday and was hospitalized last Monday night...

I haven't posted anything about this until today because we were simply awaiting for news...

Today we have it... He needs to go into surgery this evening for an obstruction of the intestine.

He's not a young man, he's 76 so any major surgery is concerning.

However, even more concerning is the fact that he had what is known as a Whipple... a surgery that he had 12 years ago that basically reworked his entire digestive tract.

When the surgeon opens him up tonight, the team will be faced with quite the jigsaw puzzle. This might complicate things greatly.

Please pray for him... His name is John and he is a Christian... and pray for the surgical team as well.

Thank you...

Dora, I've prayed for John, and I hope to hear a praise report from you soon. It strikes me as odd that he's having surgery in the evening. I've hardly ever heard that before, mostly because they like to perform surgery after patients have fasted. Has he been on feeding tubes while in the hospital?

How is his general health and stamina otherwise? I hope he has the strength to recover well. Prayers for Steve and all of you during this time too.

Will do. I'll also add it our list in my mens group.

Thanks Danus for furthering the prayer request...

Mike, yes, he has been on nothing but IV's since Monday... and hadn't eaten anything by mouth since Sunday. This is one of the reasons why they are going in as soon as possible, so that he doesn't get any weaker than he already is. They waited until today to see if the obstruction would be able to be dissolved without surgery, but now that it's clear that surgery is necessary, they are moving quickly.

Prayers for John & you & your family now in process...

Please keep us informed on his progress

:praying

Thanks all for the prayers... please keep them coming...

After waiting and waiting word came late that the surgery was being postponed until later this morning. Apparently the surgeon had an emergency to attend to.

However, when the surgeon finally did get there, he was very thorough in talking everything over with my in-laws and Steve... He answered all their questions and seems confident that the Whipple will present too many difficulties for him to remove the obstruction.

Wow i will pray for him so that god gives you, your family, and especially the surgeons, the strength to be be successful in the operation.

Dora is the surgery off? You are one strong lady !

Sorry... that should read that the Whipple will NOT present too many difficulties for him to remove the obstruction!

I just talked with my m-i-l and the surgery is now scheduled for 11:00 am, Mountain Time.

Shwew... when u said he said "it will be to difficult to remove" i started to feel SICK!! Thank you god, that he has confidence in success!

He didn't get into surgery until sometime after 3:00... He is still in surgery at this point.

Thanks for the prayers.

John is out of surgery now... the operation lasted over 6 hours. He is resting... now for the recovery time.

They were able to isolate the obstruction, reroute things and do some repair work.

I really appreciate everyone's prayers..

That's really good I hope everything is fine with john. I'll pRay for him

John's doing well this morning. He's back in his room and is resting. It will be at least a week before he can leave the hospital.

Again, thanks for the prayers everyone!!!!

John has continued to do well and now has been moved to a rehabilitation center that's only minutes away from my in-law's house in town. He is also beginning to eat solid foods again and that has really helped with his moral as well as showing that he is healing up nicely....

Praise God for all His care and comfort!

Yay!!!! Dad is coming home today. He was released from the rehabilitation center on Wednesday, but they needed to stay in town near the doctor's office for some follow up visits before getting the all clear to come home.

As of now he is doing well, but needs to gain some weight... he dropped quite a bit of weight and as he was extremely thin to begin with, the weight could be an issue. We're glad that the doctors agreed that he would probably do better at gaining weight at home than in the center.

Thanks all for your prayers. :yes
