The town is named for Arminius, the Teutonic leader who stopped Roman expansion into what is now Germany.

Great people there. Mrs. B. and I went to the courthouse to take shots of the building. Someone saw us, invited us in, and told us about the building and where to get good shots. Most places, they'd have called the police if we tried to come in and take pictures. Mrs. B said, "we're back in America."

You're experience of being welcomed is what I've experienced in the majority of places I've visited in the US. (In one place, I was called a 'Yankee'....in another, I was called a 'Southerner'. Go figure.)

When people are lovely & welcoming, a smile is easy!

Oh, I wish. Amazing German food can be had in a restaurant just behind the winery I shot. Sauerbraten (German pot roast) is perfect. And there's a wurst house downtown that's just great. And they sell their on-site made sausages.

And lots of places to shoot:

Mrs. Barbarian's shot of St. George's Church. You can see it on a hill in the distance in the vineyard shot.

Gothic with an arabic influence. This reminds me of St Helens church.

I would like to have learned more about architectural styles and influences. It's a big gap in my education. Need to read up on that.

Got a shot of St. Helens church?

Lovely church.
That's not all of it.it's original sanctuary is there. It also had a covenant .I posted what your photo resembled.I posted the north view, east and west, and a tiny portion of the south.there was a funeral going on when I walked to take photos. It was hard not to get noticed. The hurse was there and I avoided photographing that.

Jason, the shot of the church from the parking lot is beautiful, and framed perfectly by the trees. A little tweaking would make that a really remarkable image. Do you have a high-res file?
