Should Christians be playing violent video games?

I don't mess with most of them. But that's just my personal taste, not a command I am quoting from God in His word.:)

There is a lot to be said about the power of what we surround ourselves with. If I see the game as being a challenge of, perhaps beating the computer and increasing my mental reflexes, etc, and I'm not addicted to it, I don't think there is a problem. BUT, if the attraction is the desire to fantasize about murder, theft, or whatever other bad things are portrayed, I think that is a problem. And for many people, this is exactly the attraction. But the problem is not the video game. But the problem is more in the mental and spiritual state of the person that likes fantasizing about these bad things than it is in the game itself.

i am a vet and tend to avoid them.

God made my ping too high so I cant play COD4 multiplayer anymore. :)

He also killed my weed dealer in his sleep around the same time.

Voila!

2 birds with one stone.

Sometimes you dont actually have to make the difficult choices...it just happens!

Praise god.

Does anyone else have an opinion either for or against playing violent video games (like Call of Duty)?

Or does anyone have Scripture to back their opinion?

i will do much better.

i will share what the war does to some and how we have to cope with it.

while i never killed anyone, i was around alot of death.

is it ok to enjoy the deaths of others so violent and laugh when you do it? i am talking about when you see some gore.

would the lord say kill and make light of it? obviously no.

i did what i have to to do my duty. as in protect but that doesnt mean that i should revel in it.
theres a verse in revalations on that revalation 22:5

and does it not say that we should take captive our thoughts and submit them to will the christ?

so then doesn murdering for fun as in entertainment sound like a good idea?

I used to play these kinds of games a lot... Does anyone (a Christian) have a defense FOR playing these games?

Yes I would equate it to watching violent movies.

It's not for kids.

If your going to do it....do it in moderation.

Dont let it emotionally effect you.

It's a game. I know it's a game. Theres nothing inherently wrong with playing these games as long as you can see a seperation between life and art. Which kids find hard to do.

I still get on COD4 now and again late at night when ping is low, and mow down opposition on Bog with my 3 X Frags...silencesd AK and UAV jammer.

Are video games a thing of this world? Of course.

Does Jesus hate you playing violent video games? I would say...it depends how it effects you.

Is real life "violent"? How about the Bible? Yes violence is a part of this fallen world. Now, if the game is GLORIFYING violence there may be an issue, but violence in and of itself is not an automatic "bad thing" to have in multi-media.

gears of war is rather over doing it when blood is shown squirting from a decapated human or alien.

If you're a Christian and you're worried about this, maybe that is the Holy Spirit convicting you of something that God doesn't want you to be exposing yourself too.

This scripture comes to mind:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:8-9, KJV)
