it has come time that I may no longer vote. Im tired of the lies and promises of both parties.

Not exactly sure how the voting system works in the US - are there independent parties or candidates that you can vote for, or is it literally just the Republicans and Democrats?

I understand where you are coming from. Politician's are frustrating. They lie, representing their own agenda instead of the people who elected them. They vote themselves raises while they pay soldiers nada... it goes on and on. I don't really watch news, because it makes me sad, angry, and frustrated. But if you do choose to vote, you are speaking your voice on what is right, and who will do our country the lesser evil.

There are third parties. But they never win. They don't get nearly as much publicity as the two main parties. Hate to say it, but third party voting seems pretty much like a waste, because it only cuts the vote in half.

I am tired of republican candidates (the party I'm most likely to vote for) saying one thing and doing another. So if it'd actually do any good, I'd love to vote third party.

Well Australia has a hung parliament at the moment, which means that both the major parties didn't get a clear majority of the seats in the Lower House, therefore the 'winning' party needed to form a coalition between a minor party and a few independent MP's in order to form a government. This is a direct result of voters being fed up with the major parties, and instead many voted for minor parties. Obviously these minor parties are not going to win government, but in this case they hold the balance of power, so many of the issues they care about are being debated in parliament.

So just because a minor party doesn't win government doesn't mean they can't make a difference. I try not to vote strategically, but instead for the party or person who I would like to make a difference.

SPOILER ALERT!! I have tried to keep the number of major book spoilers low, but there are a few big ones that are necessary to make the points I want to make. They are in the movie, though, so if you have seen the movie, you already know them. (If you haven't seen the movie, you should consider yourself to be very fortunate.)

The Plot

n the flashbacks we learn that in the Terran Federation of Johnny's day, the rights of a full Citizen (to vote, and hold public office) must be earned through some form of volunteer "military" service.

Those residents who have not exercised their right to perform this Federal Service retain the other rights generally associated with a modern democracy (free speech, assembly, etc.), but they cannot vote.

Per WIKI: "Starship Troopers is a military science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein, first published (in abridged form) as a serial in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and published hardcover in December 1959."

nick as of Monday I will be moving to another job within the city. that is the final straw for me voting for any of these local candidates. they all rotate from city to county to school board. writing is basically not voting locally. I will not support robbing the people so that the few millionaires can get richer! on the state and federal level few independents ever win. its just a way of voicing ones opinion. in all honestly I am at the point that I believe the election system is rigged. computers are basically counting machines. how hard is it to get it right?

So Jason, shall we redistribute the wealth?

(be careful, it's a trap!)

Let's have a vote.
For anything whatsoever, I vote for ... ? ... hmm ...
I guess I just won't vote.

despite that I remain as consertive as before. the goverement here is in cohotz with a megabillion dollar utility corp. I don't believe in Keynesian logic nor do I believe in restribution of the wealth. the government should remain as neutral as possible to business.

I don’t vote, because I personally believe it is wrong for me as a Christian to vote.
